This car has been sold and I no longer own it
Introduction: initial history of the old girl
Why this car?:
The 1993 GXE Maxima represents a special car for me. I previously owned a Brown 1992 version that I bought late in 1994 that I had for 11 years. It was a car I had after meeting my first wife. I then lost this car in a divorce settlement to second wife. It was very strange how that brown car was part of my life when I was in a decade of turmoil between two very different relationships. That brown car bridged the gap in time between two very distinct phases of my life and it was ironic how I associated car as a time capsule between two very, very different parts of my youth. The brown car was the first car I actually bought on my own, and not driving a car owned by my Mom. Bought out of college shortly after working. Back in those days, there was no Infinity, no Acura and no Lexus. A $25,000 Nissan Maxima was the ultimate car in those days. I was barely making ends meet, but bought the car and loved it and was helping my Mom out too. That car was rich brown and nicely modified. That car had more suspension work and engine work done then the one this site. That car had a sad ending. Lost it in a divorce settlement. The brown car had alot of sentimental value to me. So I bought this one, as a reminder to me of that brown one, strictly for sentimental reasons, not because I needed or wanted an old car. However, in memory of that car, I decided to buy a '93 to modify. I've had many cars, and faster cars. I've had Fords, Nissans, Infinity, an so forth. This car is only about 165 HP. With modifications, she is only pushing 190HP. But this one was special to me because it was purchased during a time when I could barely afford something and something I worked on myself and took it a step further with each little step I took. This car gave me alot of satisfaction in learning how to restore a car. This site is the story of an old car that was restored, and then modified in memory of an old Brown car that was part of a very interesting part of my past.
Alot of maintence related items changed:
New timing belt, water pump, accessory belts. Replaced entire front axle instead of CV joints alone. Replaced complete exhaust, from Y pipe, B-pipe, new catalytic converter, muffler. New windshield wiper motor. Transmission cooler added. All fluids power flushed. All 6 new injectors. Cleaned throttle body and intake.
Performance:
Please see Page 3:intake and exhaust
I advanced the ignition timing by 15 degrees to get more power, but the car now has to run premium, no longer regular.
Suspension:
Please see Page 5: wheels, tires, strut bars, sway bars
Exterior:
Clear corner lenses. Full Stillen Body kit. Full repaint. Fog lights. Please see Page 2
OVERALL GOAL:
This web site has many pictures. It has many technical links to good articles in maintaining VG30e SOHC 12 valve engine. It shows the transformation of the car in a cosmetic and mechanical way from broken down and neglected to beatiful and respected. I've included many links to other web sites that can help 3rd Gen owners restore their cars at a lower cost, and show many of the things I went through to repair and restore this car. I hope you find this useful.
My overall goal was an clean car that represents the marque in a prestigious way, as this was both a luxury car and sports sedan. I didn't want an obnoxiosly loud exhaust announcing my arrival, but performance oriented mods that are there for me to know about but not shout out. This car is factory about 165HP and is now only about 180 HP. I've had faster cars,(Infinity Q45 with 300HP) but this one is special to me. anybody can spend $35,000 and buy a 280 HP car. It's much harder to restore an older car. I will post all pictures soon.
I also posted many links of repair related stuff that will hopefully help out other 3rd Gen owners.
