I've got a 97, I had to remove the same dash piece to put a different head unit in! Here is what you have to do, I had to do the same......DON'T BE SCARED!!! Line up the two hook and loop pieces, which you can through the crack, and give it a good push!!! It'll go back in. DON'T BE SCARED. Check out my Max, the most recent mod is that I put Tokico struts and springs on it!! Later....Go give that dash a good push.

whats up. i have a 97 too, and had the same problem because i tried to change the color of my clock. I just kept on playing with it until it finally snapped in. it took a little banging with my palm. if you have any other questions just ask.

HI this is tatjay1980. i have a 95. in regards to your question you have to take the whole bottom out staring with the ash tray. take out the shifter cover it snaps down on mine. there will be some screws behind it and behind the ash tray. you have to pull all of the pieces out to pop that back down its kinda a pain in the ass. if you have any questions send me a message. good luck
