This is my 2000 Ford F-150 regular cab. It came with a stock AM/FM deck and 2 5x7's in the doors. It was pretty boring so I decided to upgrade. I got everything from a local car audio shop. They know their stuff and a friend of mine works there so I got a good deal. I've installed systems in my other (old) cars and trucks, but I didn't want to mess with this since I'm not familiar with removing panels in new Fords and I didn't want to void my warranty by shorting out wires. Anyway, here it is. Its not very complicated but it sounds clean and has pretty good bass if the situation calls for it.....
BEWARE SONY FANS....: The Sony cdx-5000 sucks!!
After a month of use the volume knob was constantly malfunctioning, and minor CD scratches caused skipping!!!!
I exchanged the Sony for an Alpine head unit....MUCH BETTER!!
Even major CD scratches are no problem for the Apline and overall it is much better than the Sony!!!!!
New head unit, Alpine quality the Sony just can't match!
I replaced the stock 5x7 in the doors with these JL Audio 5x7 and also put another pair in the rear stock location. They sound clean but I'm going to have to add an amp to get the volume up.
As far as BASS goes, I got 2 JL Audio 8" WO in a custom box behind the seat. Nothing fancy, just the basics for solid bass........
An expoded view of an 8" WO. I really hadn't heard too much about JL Audio woofers, but they are by far the best I have ever heard. Visit www.jlaudio.com for a complete listing of products, enclosure designs, wiring setups, etc.
This is it for now. Everything is just thrown behind the seat for now, but will be properly installed as time allows. Will upload finished pics soon.
