1/2011Im starting to work on the firebird again, I have finished college and am now able to focus on some of my projects again. Pics to follow. 12/2006I just put in some new carpet so that the interior will be presentable for my wedding. This will be the getaway car so it has to be somewhat decent inside. The carpet is temporary but I have learned that temporary fixes usually take years to be redone so I did a good job the first time. I already put down a layer of dynamat extreme. Dynamat does nothing to block heat as I experienced after installing it and it really doesnt block too much sound. It cuts the resonance of the big panels, but more is necessary to really deaden sound. After researching and testing a few materials I came to the conclusion that closed cell foam is a great second layer for the floor. I found cheap camping mats from wal mart for 5.88 for 12 square feet, thats REAL hard to beat for sound deadener pricing as it usually ranges from $1-6 a square foot. I covered the dynamat with the closed cell foam camping mats and than covered that with a layer of rubber mat. I used the rubber mats that you put under treadmills. That was also affordable from wal mart. Walmart now carries replacement carpet. I used three rolls at $8.95 a roll, replacement carpet is over 100 for pre formed. I think that I achieved a better final product for a fraction of the price and sound and heat is eliminated from the floor/front of the car. Here are some pictures.
