Three year review of Powerworks Supercharger for SVT Focus:

This kit was installed more than 3 years ago, and has seen slightly more than 50,000 miles.  It has battled Missouri and Florida summers (at over 100 degrees F) as well as Minnesota and Wisconsin winters (at less than 20 below zero).  This was no walk in the park experiment for this PWSC... it was daily driven, as well as taken to numerous race days.  However, with regular maintenance and proper breakin, this supercharger continues to churn out strong horsepower (251 hp) and is still able to spin the wheels in the first 2-3 gears of the getrag 6speed.

.

When I was looking to buy a kit I wanted reliability above all, plus superb horsepower gains, and I have never regretted purchasing this supercharger.  It has only had one hiccup in 3 years, a cracked magnet wheel inside the bosch intercooler pump, which was easy to diagnose and replace at little cost.  The powerworks team built a factory looking kit, with factory parts, thus even with Powerworks no longer producing the kit, it has been easy to get replacement and upgraded parts from Ford and other associated companies.  The design team was given maximum exposure to the Focus engine and specific details from part suppliers as this SC was built along with Ford engineers in Michigan at Mahle facilities.

.

When I had a slight oil leak after initial assembly, and I happened to be visiting a friend at MSU in east Lansing, Powerworks offered to diagnose and FIX the issue at their plant in Detroit at NO COST.  Between questions during install, and minor issues following the install, I figured Powerworks would have had enough of me... but their customer relations was BEYOND excellent.  I even got a tour of upcoming projects like the SC for the Ford Lighting, and neighboring Mahle assembly and testing areas.  Plus they were willing to talk car, discuss their own project Foci, and generally treat my friend and I like visitoring royalty.  I cannot speak highly enough of the Powerworks team, and I was greatly saddened to learn of their dissolve.

.

Bottomline, I give this kit a 10/10 for adding 100 ponies to my wheels in bolt-on form (that was also easy to install, and even came with a detailed picture reference installation guide and 24-7 phone assistance).  This SC pulls from 0-135mph like is was destiny to merge with a SVT engine.  It fills all the spots where the SVTF used to bog down or drag along... now all the car does is WHINE through the gears.  If you want a car that is NOT a sleeper, this is the SC for you.  I've never heard a LOUDER supercharger in all the years I've spent around forced induction.  Truly amazing performance.  Truly amazing look and feel of high quality parts.  I love that this system looks stock, and has the performance and reliability to match.

UPDATE: 6-14-2009

The water pump for the powerworks intercooler stopped working, and required a replacement.  Luckily it's the same pump used in the Ford Lightning, so the part was relatively cheap and easy to source.

New pump installed, cycling 50/50 (water/glycol) just fine again!!  Took the old pump apart to look for the source of the problem.  It turns out the magnet had broken in half...

I'm looking to see if I can source repair parts, would be nice to have a backup water pump in case something happens again.

INFO STRAIGHT FROM THE COMPANY:

.

It's tough to improve on a masterpiece, but PowerWorks has done the nearly impossible with its new FocusForce SVT package for the Ford Foucs SVT. If you though the stock Foucs SVT's 170 HP engine was fast, you won't believe the adrenaline rush you'll get from the 250 HP that the FocusForce SVT package delivers!

The new FocusForce SVT package turns up the excietement meter several notches past "Wow!" to make your SVT the quickest 4-cylinder on the road. Thanks to its specially packaged and calibrated supercharger and intercooler, you get instant power from idle and an incredible head snapping torque rating of 200 ft-lbs for super-fast hole shots. Only PowerWorks can deliver this kind of performance in a no-mod, do-it-yourself kit.

The Specs: Kit weight 46 pounds
Supercharger used: Eaton M62 Roots style
Max Rated Horsepower: 250 HP AT THE FRONT WHEELS...not at the engine!
Max Rated Torque: 200 Ft.-Lb AT THE FRONT WHEELS
Rated Boost: 11 psi
Installation Time: 16 hours is typical for a first timer.

Major items in kit: M62 blower, integral inlet plenum/manifold, BBK 65mm Throttle Body, Green hi-flow conical air filter, integral intercooler, fluid pump, and a HUGE air to air heat exchanger, high flow fuel injectors, new air inlet tube, and all hardware/vacuum line/hoses/electrical harness/etc.

What needs to be modified? Absolutely NOTHING! Unlike every other supercharger kit out there that require extreme modifications, this kit is a true BOLT-ON...not a cobble together-on!

Can I ever return the car to stock? Yes. There is not cutting, welding, splicing, grinding, or modifying of any stock component. EVERYTHING has been addressed for a perfect fit. Wire harnesses extensions are provided with proper clips for "plug and play" easy installation. New vacuum lines are provided if they need to be longer. You need only basic hand tools.

Do I need computer changes? Yes, and we provide a package for you to mail your ECM to PowerWorks for the reflash. This is turned around and remailed in 24 hours after receipt.

There are other less expensive blower kits out there. Why should I buy the PowerWorks product? If you have read this far, you likely already have the a major portion of the answer to your question. First of all, the PowerWorks kit simply produces more HP and torque. Peak numbers only tell half the story so PLEASE double click on the dyno charts shown here to enlarge them. Torque is what thrusts your car away from a stand still and this kit makes HUGE torque as low as 2000 to 2500 RPM and the torque curve is nearly table top smooth until 7000 rpm! This type of torque cure is exactly what you need to take away the "peaky" feel of the stock SVT powerplant. This allows for less downshifting when city driving and makes the car easy to launch at the track without having to excessively rev the car. Again, COMPARE the HP and Torque curves to other kits and you'll see that the PowerWorks system blows away its' wanna be competitors as far as making useable power! The FocusForce system is also intercooled and the level of expertise that went into the tuning of this kit is unsurpassed by ANY kit on the market today. The level of tuning sophistication developed for this kit by the Mahle Powertrain engineers has allowed this kit to be CARB certified. NO OTHER supercharger kit on the market has been certified! Their engineers have vastly remapped the engine control module that changes timing and air-fuel ratios throughout the entire rev range to provide much higher performance levels while still maintaining long-term durability. Further, idle quality, low-speed drivability, cold- and hot-weather capability, and complete on-board diagnostics are maintained in the PowerWorks calibration.. Simply put, this kit offers a NO COMPROMISES level of engineering. Since your car is only a few years old and likely still in warranty, you should EXPECT this. Do NOT assume you are getting it from some "tuner ready" kit that only provides a turbo or supercharger, all the plumbing, and pray to God a local person can get you a chip that allows the car to barely run, except at full throttle. The final part of this answer goes back to all the previous answers to the questions above. The PowerWorks System is so well engineered they have thought of EVERYTHING you need to install this system, and some day possibly uninstall with no undue effects. Try that after you have drilled/tapped a hole in your oil pan for a Vortech kit, which is one of the too numerous to mention permanent alterations required for this kit and others like it.

PowerWorks is a brand of MAHLE Powertrain, Inc. The MAHLE Group is a worldwide leading manufacturer of engine components and filter systems. With more than 35,000 employees in over 65 production sites, MAHLE achieved sales of more than €3.7 billion in 2004, positioning MAHLE among the Top 30 Tier 1 automotive suppliers worldwide.

Install the PowerWorks kit yourself or call Super Coupe Performance and we will take care of it for you.
