I began on 12/20/05 by washing the spirit, and letting it dry overnight. Then I opened the doors, the trunk, and the hood, and began sanding on the 21st. I started with the door jams and under the hood and the trunk, to get them out of the way. Then I got my Dad's orbital sander with 220 and sanded the roof, trunk, hood, and the rest of the car.
On 12/22/05, I went up to Wal*Mart and got 7 cans of Krylon grey primer, Advance Auto to get 3 rolls of green auto masking tape and a can of Adhesion Promoter for the plastic bumpers. I wiped the car down, took the rear lights off, the black seal off of around the trunk, and began the endless task of masking everything off. It's an endless task because I'm doing the door jams so I have to mask the interior. There was a huge hole in the bottom of the driver's door, and the passenger door was a bit rusty too, so my Dad got a universal door fix kit and patched them both.
12/23/05 I took the 'dodge' and 'spirit' emblems off, finished masking everything, and sprayed the adhesion promoter onto the bumpers and plastic trim.
Then I finally got to start with the primer. All 7 cans later, the spirit is totally primered and looks really nice.
12/24/05 I went up to Wal*Mart and got 10 cans of classic grey Krylon spray paint, a pint of black satin brush enamel, and one more can of primer. I masked off under the hood and primered that too. I wasn't going to originally, but it would have bugged me if I didn't.
12/25/05 The spirit got fog lights and speakers for christmas!
12/26/05 I went down to the garage and spent about 4 hours putting the grey coat of paint on. 10 cans later, I have a big part of the hood left to do. That will have to wait for tomorrow.
12/27/05 Okay, finished the grey. Then went to Wal*Mart to get a few cans of clear coat for in the door jams. I also went to Beermans Auto Body and got 2 cans of hot lime acrylic enamel. I put the green and black graffiti on the car and clear coated the door jams so tomorrow I can unmask the interior and the insides of the doors and shut them to continue with the outside.
12/28/05 Today I unmasked the interior and the doorjams, and closed the doors for the first time in a while. I clear coated the inside of the trunk lid and under the hood. I then put the grill back on. After all that, I started painting Wayne Static on the drivers side. I got all 4 pics on, but I still have to finish little parts of them. My brother helped me install the speakers today as well.
I clear coated the front bumper and grill before I left so tomorrow we can put the blue headlights in and install the fog lights. I hope they look as sic as I imagine.
12/29/05 I got a lot done today. I'm almost done. I got the Static-X side done. The pic on the driver's door drove me nuts and I still don't think it looks right but you should see the pic I had to work from lol.
Clear coated the back. Cleaned and touched up the emblems and put them back on. Put the back lights, licence plate, and frame back on as well.
Unmasked the headlights and installed the new blue bulbs. Put the parking lights back in and painted the hood. Got it clear coated today too. Finally clear coated the drivers side, unmasked it, and put the wheel covers back on.
12/30/05 I got almost everything done today. Armor All-ed the mud flaps and put them on the drivers side. Painted the slipknot side. Clear coated it numerous times, and put the mud flaps and the wheel covers on. My Dad and I installed the fog lights. We wired them so they work like factory fog lights; they automatically turn off when you turn your high beams on. Unmasked everything.
I'm not sure when exactly I got it 'done' for that time, but I wasn't perfectly happy with it. I needed to concentrate on little things here and there to make it look better.
As the time went by, I attached the bumpers and skirts, painted the window trim, took the rams off, fiberglassed the fenderwells, made the graffiti more uniform, etc.
Here are some pictures of the passenger side paint in progress since I do not have any of the wayne static side.
