Raye's Neverending Journey
Featured here is a 1983 Datsun 280ZX in need of some major work. Don't get me wrong, it runs...it always has. It's sort of my back up car. I've owned 'Raye' for about 7 years. I caught the Z-bug after picking up a '72 Datsun 240Z. But after that car was out of my life I looked around for a replacement. I saw 'Raye' as well as a 1972 240Z at the used car lot. I really wanted the '72. But in the end I saw potential in this car and had (still have) many ideas to personalize it. Of course that did not happen as of yet as you all can tell.

For the first year 'Raye' was my primary ride. Faithfully taking me to and from work with no complaints at all. Back and forth to run errands, to parties and what not. Then it needed to go into the shop. So there she parked in front of my house. She still ran, but was too loud as the exaust manifold had somehow melted. When I finally had some money and some free time she was driven to the shop. Many thousands of dollars (but not too many) I got her back. After that she pretty muched stayed parked in the driveway collecting dirt and cobwebs.

On that note that's mostly what's wrong with her. All the interior lights work, as does the power accessories. Also 'Raye's' voice still works. She says things like, 'Fuel level is low', 'headlights are on', 'left/right door is open', and 'Parking Brake is On'. I don't quite understand why that was ever an option on this car, but I'm sure it can be easily justified... it was the 80's. Anyhow, now here it is 2005. I've gone through a handful of cars and I think it's about time some love came her way. Thanks for stopping by.
