So here goes.
first things first.
the directions dictate that the job was done with a good expensive beer
i chose rogue uberpilsner (a wonderful bouquet, bold yet delicately playful)

next step aquiring tools

cut the floors to a little oversize

and then file them down
BY HAND!!!!!!
i noticed that the best quality finish is made with a hand file and 180 grit sandpaper.
This is where attention to detail really pays off.

The edges fit beutifully and then rounded edges looked professional.
I am very pleased with the results
next strip down and repaint the engine
i used a gallon of kerosene some acetone and a can of brake cleaner (oh how i love brake cleaner) this stuff will degrease the alaskan oilfields if it had to.
i opened the engine to replace the manifold and found the gunk from hell. however other builders found the same problem so i wasnt detered.
the paint i chose (a statement of the superiority of diesel) "Cummins Diesel Beige"

Stuborn rusty bolts will be the end of me!!!! the two manifold studs took 2 hours each to remove. My face only hints to the amount of agrivation.
