MISC SHYTE
ok...a common problem I'm finding that a lot of ppl have with their GPs, the trunk lid doesn't open all the way on its own. It's only a small problem, but if your hands are full it can be a major PITA
1996 and older GPs used Torsion bars to open the trunk lid, I ALMOST tried to adjust them, but got some good advice just in time. These things are under extreme tension, don't toy with them unless you don't mind losing a finger, or know what your up against.
I was going to add shocks to open the trunk, much like in the 1997 and newer Grand Prix's but they were too expensive for my pocket right now..
SO!...heres what I did, and it works great...
BUNGIE CORDS!!!
I lucked out and there was a hole on the swing arm for the trunk. As the lid opens this arm moves towards the back, so I fixed the bungie cord through an unused hole and then through the carpet and hooked it on the body where the tail light cut out is. It took some testing with different strengths of cord but I eventually got it to work. I curently have 1 cord on each side. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, it depends on the slope that the car is parked on. When I can afford it, I will try to find some smaller cords and try them, in the meantime, this is good enough for me!
Over time this might stop working, I don't know how strong the cords are but when you close the trunk they are put under tension, I think too much of this will wear them out faster. Also, when you close the trunk, it takes more effort than it did before.
