EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS

HEADLIGHTS
I got my headlight covers on the car. Really finishes off the entire blacked out window look quite nicely

3rd BRAKE LIGHT
I painted the letters GTP on the 3rd brake light, I eventually plan to debadge the car, when I get it painted

TAIL LIGHTS
Well they're done, the look ok for now, but read on and you will find I have a light problem.

For those of you that want to know how to do this...read on, I had a hard time finding out how to do it, but here is what I have learned! Step by Step...

1. Remove tail light assembly from car
2. Remove as many of the metal clips as you can, 2 will be nearly impossible to get off (they don't HAVE to come off, but it does make the process easier)
3. Sink assembly into a tub of steaming hot water for about 5 minutes (the water doesn't have to be boiling, it is hot enough coming out of the tap, you don't HAVE to dip them, but again, it makes life easier)
4. GENTLY pry the 2 plastic peices apart with a flat head screw driver, once the screw driver has started the job you can finish it by hand.
5. Clean off all the silicone and weather stripping
6. Paint if desired (I left mine, the silver inside wasn't as dull as I thought)
7. Re-assemble, weather stripping is not needed, silicone will do, if you do go with a weather stripping, use thin stuff, 1/4 inch tops, anything bigger will hold the peices too far apart. I didn't use weather stripping, just a silicone based adheisive.
8. Re-install
9. Install collored bulbs, BE CAREFUL! I spent $67 on 6 red brake lights only to get them in and discover that they are closer to orange, Canadian tire sells little rubber caps for light bulbs, I'm going to try them over the regular bulbs and maybe take these orange things back. Another option is LEDs, if you can figure out how to make em work without blowing your fuse, please let me know. I figure a bigger fuse will work, but how big?

Tail light update! October 9, 2006
OK... I got bored of the cleared tail lights...
I swapped them out for a set of tails off a 92(?) GP SE, Unlike my old ones they do not have the black grid inside them. However, when clearing them you can only remove the signal color, the red over the brakes is molded in.

You can get the headlight covers from Parts Source in Canada. Your car is coming along good Jamie! Someday, mine will be on par with yours.
