112079's 1986 Chevrolet Camaro

This has been my two year old project car.(money hole if you will) And believe me, many have joked a good bit about it taking so long to get it running. Let me tell you hobby cars, schooling, and being broke don't mix.
-My goal is to be king of our streets and get 19 miles a gallon with a dependable car.- "King of our streets will be quiet a challenge at that!"

The Story 112079's 1986 Chevrolet Camaro

I've had a love for cars and racing ever since I can remember. Living about two miles from a local race track I go to sleep to the sound of dragsters tearing up the track on every Friday night.

This project started about three years ago. This is my brothers old car that was retired for about six years. Their it sat covered with green moss up to the side mirrors. Finaly one day dad said "If you get that damn car out of the yard you can have it." From there is was on! The car had been sitting so long I had to go buy a key and cylinder, because we couldn't find the original key. After that I robbed the old Delco battery off my truck and on the third turn she cranked! She was alive. Very few still believe me that after six years of silence the car cranked on the third turn.(Now she smoked like hell, but she did crank.)

Restoration, hell in progress...
I made a few runs through town. After sitting up 6 years you can imagine the smoke and overheating problems. I was just tickled I didn't have to tow it to the shop. I eventually got tired of everybody laughing at the moss on my doors, and insects I was killing. From there I parked it in grannys shop. It was time to do something. Gazing at the car I decide to sleep on it for a while before I knew what exactly what I was going to do.
-First thing was a new paint job. With the paint job came a 4" cowl hood. I covered the car with my favorite colors, silver and black. Now I'm not saying I'm the best painter and body man. But I promise it does look better than what it did.
-Being a 3500lb getto sleigh, she has got to go on a diet to beat some of my competition. air conditioning-gone, power steering-gone, bumpers-gone, heads-aluminum, hood-fiberglass, jack and tire-gone, radiator-aluminum, starter-mini, carpet insulation-gone. now down to 3480 with me in it.
-Next the interior had to come out. Let me tell you, tan doesn't match silver and black. Straight from the junk yard came a "new" grey and black interior. Nothing new for this poor boy. Only the best junkyard parts money can buy.
-Now for the motor. I wanted to stick to a small block for affordable fuel injection reasons. But you know the ole saying, Cubic inches rule! So out with the 305 and in with a long rod 406.
-Little did I know after pulling the 305 it'd be two years down the road before she'd be alive again.
