Rear Bumper Restoration 8-1-02

As you saw on page one the rear bumper squares on each side of the license plate where starting to look like an eye sore. I got sick of seeing the yellow urethane peeking through so I decided to take a shot at making it look better. The top edge of the urethane had blistered from the TX sun and heat. I started by removing the license plate and license plate lens housings on each side. I then worked on sanding down the whole bumper square and concentrate on smoothing out the urethane as best as possible. Next I masked everything off and sprayed a few light coats of paint. The paint I used was Dark Grey Bumper Paint from O'Reily Auto Parts. It is designed as a I one part paint application made just for the plastic and urethane of bumpers. Cost: $9.00/can. I started out painting the driver side first since it was the worst of the two.

Next I moved to the other side repeating the same process and painted the middle.

I applied a total of 5 light coats making sure it all evened out. I was really impressed with the results.

If I do not sell the car soon I think I am going to buy 2 more cans and work on doing the same thing to the front.
Stay tuned....
