b>ASK ME ABOUT ACETONE AS A FUEL ADDITIVE FOR BETTER MILEAGE!
(Bottom of this page)
I wanted a car that got better mileage than my F250 and started looking. Saw an 86 300zx at a lot in everett, wa and I fell in love with the profile and the styling when you look at it 'nose-on'.
The interior was trashed however and the rest of the car was in trouble as well. I kept looking and found the 89 posted here.
The car lot ad said,'cleanest in the state' and though I was skeptical (wouldn't you be?) I checked it out. I paid them 3K for it total.
The car had 201K on it but I could hardly find a flaw. The interior was nearly immaculate (cloth seats sure hold up better than leather) though the shifter boot has a small hole and the console was beat up.
I'd heard about the timing belt deal, so the first thing I did was to take it to Auburn Nissan and have 'em change out the belts and seals.
With over 200K on the motor, I was getting some low oil pressure, so I changed the oil for 50 weight and the gauge came right up to 30 lbs. at idle..nice.
I found a console cover on ebay, 16 bucks, problem fixed. I replaced other minor things like a cracked headlight and driving lights and pass. mirror. I feel like a goofy kid, but I'm in love with this thing. Superb engineering, well-thought out amenities like dim lighting and power/heated mirrors, power seat. And this is a late eighties car! I've heard that these cars are bullet-proof and fun to drive. It's true. I make up excuses just to go out for ride!
Ok, I just got back from Les Schwab where I dropped 1300 bucks on these new wheels and tires. Les Schwab is an outstanding company, they always go the extra mile and this time was no exception.
I got a set of Milliano 554's 17" all chrome for 900 bucks and they found some 'used' tires, Toyo DCNA's for 70 bucks each. They only had a few miles on them, still showing the nubs!
I wasn't real excited about this style of wheel, but it IS chrome and they do fit well. The tires might be a little undersized, but I'll try to get used to that.
Now I'm just going to drive it, keep it waxed and try not to get any tickets!
As to Acetone in your gas tank, I heard a radio show about it (Coast to Coast AM) where this guy was suggesting that you could increase your fuel mileage by between 10 and 30 percent.
All you have to do is add 2.5 ounces of 100% pure Acetone to 10 gallons of regular gas and that's it.
Go ahead and google it, there are a number of sites that talk about how it works. I'll post my results back here when I've run a few tanks through the Z, but so far, it's running smoother and seems to have more pep.
UPDATE: After a few months of using Acetone in two of my vehicles, I find that it works best in terms of mileage in smaller engines, but allows both of my cars to run smoother and seem to have more acceleration. So in that respect, it is worth adding 3 ounces to each full tank. The cost is neglible, and the benefits are ok, if not tremendous. Go ahead and try it, just don't spill any on the paint.
