OK heres the 350 I'm starting with, I rebuilt it about 10 years ago and only put about 10,000 miles on it. Sat a lot and is burning a little oil.
So apart it comes. Going for complete rebuild again. No boring needed, just honing.

I decided to go with a .447" cam, the 350HP hydraulic version of the 327 cam from the 60's. Windage tray, flat tops, and Chrome-Moly rings.

Billet Steel roller timing chain and button and Crane gold roller rockers and guide plates. Good start, I think. Everything has been double and triple checked. Clearances and endplays, check. Cam specs, check. Good to go.
Since I decided to retain all the emissions, I opted for an Edelbrock Performer intake. Still have the EGR valve and stock Q-Jet on there that way. The carb will be rebuilt soon with performance mods done to help the verified 350HP engine live up to its potential.
Engine's built, time to remove the old 305HO. Gotta make room for the cleaner, stronger, all around better 350. Didn't have much time to clean the engine bay now, I'll take care of that at a later date. Spring is coming and I want to be ready.

Out and in, no problem beside the lift didn't want to fit under the lower control arms. No problem, sat the tires on a 2X8 and cured it. No damage and no difficulties. It's meant to be. YES! Now the slow process of getting all the accessories put back on and get it fired up.
Most everything back in, Valve Covers on, Carb, front accessories and all else. It lives and sounds good. The Edelbrock TES headers are a real nightmare and the wires are tight and close to the exhaust, but it's all clear, timing set and idles good. Finish it up and drive is in the near future. Close to halfway into the break in and it's obvious the carb. isn't keeping up, rebuild just got bumped up the importance list. It does do a standing burnout real good without powerbraking or a line-loc.:)
Update 7-7-06
After a couple Months of running around and tweaking everything, the Carb isn't getting enough air. Started with new Air Filter, removing the charcoal canister in the air cleaner, then the flap at the air entry. Better, but still can't breathe. Removed the flexible air duct, hotter air going in, but more of it. Getting better. My 88 had a cut up factory lid that I put on. It was cut off just after the filter, so it sucks air in the top just outside of the filter. Even with the hot air, it better. Sucks air in real good, doesn't look bad, and definitely faster. I need a Cowl Hood in the worst way. I can hear it breathe now. Bonus.
