Sound system install still under heavy construction and is now in full swing. That is why I haven't got time to do this page properly ;-)

Midbass drivers are going into the front doors with enclosures. I have nearly finished this part and will be starting the kick panels for the Utopia's soon. Sub will go into spare tire well unless I think of somewhere better in the meantime.

The objective is to produce as pure as possible sound quality and to retain factory appearence and trunk space.

The car is the Nissan Silvia S14a. It is the same body as a 240SX but has updated headlights and hood and obviously right hand drive. All S14's imported into Australia are fitted with the SR20DET 2.0 litre turbo engine which is rated 147kw (200hp) at the flywheel.
Modifications include: D-Speed front bar, Edge side skirts, Work 18x8" & 18x9" wheels, Yokahama 265/35 & 235/40 tires, APEXi front mount intercooler, Garret BB Turbo, APEXi AVC-R boost controler, APEXi N1 dual exhaust, custom turbo pipe & cat, and more! Dyno-ed at 180kw at the wheels. Which is about 275 flywheel kw (371hp).

Door panel removed
Sheet metal has been cut for fitting of the custom enclosure.
Green floral foam is shaped to the inside contours of the doors
Fiberglass applied to the foam then the foam removed to give a half mould of the enclosure. Only one thin layer of glass was applied, many layers will go on once the front half has been moulded onto it.

The IDQ 8" has considerably more depth than the original door speakers. Therefore the door panel was 'pumped' out to allow the extra space behind. Most people just fabricate a build-out. That would have been quicker and much cheaper (it cost me $700 to re-vinyl press both doors!!!!!) but I feel my way will look more factory like.

�The door panel was striped of its vinyl. The lower outside edge was cut around the speaker location. Then with a heat gun I softened the plastic all around the speaker hole and right to the lower corner. I used an old 10" speaker to push the plastic out once it was hot. An MDF disc was screwed to the speaker hole to prevent it from distorting.
You can see by the cut in the bottom corner that I now have about 1 1/2" more space behind the door panel. Here the inside of the cut has been fiberglassed. The outside was filled with fiberglass filler and Plastic body filler. It was shaped to be as close to original as possible.
