This is my ride; A 1996 Land Rover Discovery SE7. I bought it on ebay I didnt see any more really than you can see now - in fact until I take some more pics this is all I got. Well everyone likes a good story and this Landy comes with one. I've always been a sucker for British tin. I have owned TRIUMPH TR6's and I needed a fun vehicle to replace the TR and haul the family. I guess I've always been mesmorized about a big ugly truck that can go anywhere. The Land Rover simply does it all well - it posseses that mystique of being able to jump in and go anywhere. One of the user pages showes a bumper sticker that sums it up nicely; "You can go faster - BUT I can go ANYWHERE!". With this in mind go back to February of 2005. My Dodge Caravan with 120,000KM had the transmission blow for the THIRD TIME!!! Anyways the dealer wanted to soak me for $3600! So I went on ebay with hopes of buysng a doner car for parts - namely a tranny. I hoped to find an AWD Caravan and thus gain a more suitable winter vehicle. Winters here in Winnipeg are harsh. At any rate I stumbled on this Disco for $3800 starting bid. I put a bid in for $4100 MAX (the price of my trans)... and walked away. I came home that night to find out I had won!! Well I bought a plane ticket to Boston. I was scared it would be a wreck and I would be out my money but being an adventurer at heart I decided to take whatever curves life would throw at me.... I flew to Boston from Winnipeg which is (8hrs North of Minneapolis for all you Geography challenged people out there...) I landed in Boston and took a shuttle bus and 4 subway transfers to the commuter line to a town called Franklin Mass. I was greeted by a Benjamin Frankin impersonator (coulda been worse (elvis) ).. took a cab with the only right wing nut in Mass he went on about how his car didnt work so good and he was doing 90mph while telling me this... . Got to Upton Mass (alive). The truck looked great but it needed to be filled and washed covered in DUST!!! Mud I could tolerate but DUST!!!... the truck as it was on Bone dry. I soon found out at McDonald's that the Rover was leaking lots of gas all over.. The smell and the sound of fuel peeing all over the lot was a big tip-off. Sooo I continued to drive back into Boston.. Did I mention that due to an oversight I drove with no insurance or plates all the way back into and all over Boston? While looking for a Hotel I watched a guy get tasered by police (3 cops - 3 tasers) quite funny - I have never seen a police take-down like that before... I was fortunate to get a room at the Sheraton (there was an Anime conference, so all these people were walking around dressed like cartoons (I shoulda grabbed pictures) - got insurance the next day. Land Rover was also immediately called (IN total desparation fron the hotel)... found out I had a Fuel tank recall!! guess what! RECALL=FREE!! YAY! Thanks Land Rover Peabody! However their car wash person is an idiot stole my cargo matt... Drove all the way home, made a wrong turn at Albany NY. drove up US87N to Montreal... drove down number 11 to Waterton saw some Amish people and alot of US Army. Went through Buffalo, Syracuse, Cleveland, Chicago, Madison, Minneapolis (NONSTOP)[That means I did not eat or sleep from Albany to Winnipeg] then my wife said "goto Ikea in Minneapolis". I walk in no sleep since Albany I look like a crack head [Due to not sleeping since Albany]. People in Ikea see me on the phone with my wife and piece together my ordeal and end up filling my cart with my wife's list! (I Love Minnesotans!)... I Leave for home 8hrs to go... Fargo... Grand Forks and Home after fighting with Canada Customs as they didnt believe I bought the car for [they had to check the Ebay Auction site].... $4100!! MINT! It has Genuine Brush guard, and tailight guard, rear jump seats and is otherwise un molested! Clean carfax as well! Woot!

Anyways look forward to more pics etc!

A couple years back while I was in high school I modified the exhaust. Sometimes I wish I hadn't gone with such an aggressive muffler (it's a Flowmaster but to be honest I can't remember if it's the plain 40 series or the delta flow). As far as power increase or anything, possibly it has helped a little bit. Nothing super noticeable but then again I'd probably have to drive a D1 with stock exhaust to really compare! Even if you want a nice deep sound which the Disco V8 produces nicely, I would go with a little quieter muffler. Over the past two years it has at least doubled in sound output, and I'm sure you've discovered (haha, get it) that the door seals are crappy, and that overall wind and outside noise is as if you've got your windows open all the time. Before you make any purchases I'd go to my links page and go to the Land Rovers Only Forums. I believe there are some folks on there with Borla and also others with Flowmaster. Because I only replaced the stock muffler right in the middle and removed the back one near the tip, I could be experiencing more noise because of that. See if anybody has modified the whole exhaust and I'd bet they have a little more power increase. I also have a K&N. Most people with one couldn't live without one, but as I stated before, I would really need to drive another Disco to compare any possible HP gains.

My biggest recommendation is if the entire radiator and cooling system, to your knowledge, hasn't been flushed, make sure to do it soon. I got my baby used and didn't know she hadn't been flushed out after the first 43,000 on her... two summers back I experienced major overheating, soo common in Discos anyway, and discovered (haha no pun) the radiator was clogged. Had it re-cored and she never ever goes above halfway up the temp thingy. I've gotta get at some homework, but definitely keep me updated with any mods and news. I hope you will just love your truck from here on out! -Erica
