1/5/2007 - Woo HOO!

She's getting a new skeleton now! The folks at Blak Racing are installing a custom fabricated roll cage.

channelmaniac's 1990 Mazda MiataI had to pick up a few things to go along with it: fire extinguisher, blue window net, window net weld-in mount, fuel port test kit, and a 3" pull-down blue racing harness. I already had picked up the hard top mounting kit, racing seat, racing seat mount, and the kill switch. All of it came from the great folks at OK Miata except for the racing seat. That was bought used from one of the DFW Miata members.

1/19/2007 - Stopped by the racing shop before work and was fitted into the racing seat. We had to move it forward and backwards to find the spot that felt right for driving. The seat base and seat were marked for later drilling and mounting. This was needed so the cage could be built around the driver - ME! It will be 1.5" DoM .120 thickness tubing.

channelmaniac's 1990 Mazda MiataAfter work I went down to MSR to meet one of the local Spec Miata racers and pick up some new feet for the car. A set of used Kazera KX-M rims with a used set of R-comps for a sweet price. Those will work for quite a few practice laps still!

While at MSR I had to gawk at the Spec Miatas that were all there for this weekend's race. Looking at all of those cars gave me ideas on paint/stripes and on things I could do to the interior of the car! Plus it was fun to drool.

2/2/07 - WOW! I picked up the car today but there's still SO much to do. Since the roll cage isn't painted they didn't install the harnesses. I was wondering how I'd get the car home but Rick (the owner) loaned me a trailer and I drove her up on it for the trip home. Funny too. When the car was up on the trailer I couldn't open the door so I had to crawl out the window. Rick was laughing at how slow I was coming out the first time and said I'd come out a LOT faster if there was a fire in the car!

Took a few pics to share with the local Miata board. These show the cage from various angles. My kiddo wanted in the pics too! :D

I'm cleaning out the garage now since there's NO driver's side window any more and I need to keep the car out of the rain. Plus it will give me a place to do the body work ;)

Also, the great folks at G-Force Racing sent me a set of stickers to put on the car. I have one of their helmets and put the stickers that came with it on sheet magnets for use on my other car. I'm still waiting to see if Ultra Shield will send me stickers too... I have their 6 point cam lock harness. If not, I'll buy the racing suit, gloves, and shoes from G-Force. ;)
