Page 8: Brake Light

BlackMagic196's 2000 Nissan Maxima

Things Needed:
1. The Brake Light
2. An exacto knife

1. If you look at the long flat part (not the part with the tabs and wires coming out but the one above that) and look closely at the edges, you'll see the glue and where the cover is. Between the cover and the brake light (what might help that I forgot to do if first heat the glue up with a hair dryer then it will be easier to cut through) take the knife and start cutting softly in the first pass so the knife has something to follow. Then after each pass, start pushing harder in with the knife each pass and after like 30 passes on one side start to wiggle the knife while in the plastic so that it separates from the brake light (it will make clicking sounds like it's cracking). Do this to all sides. It took me about 40 min to complete this step so be pacient (I can't spell)!!!!

If you did the first step right and got the cover separated from the brake light it should com out like this. You'll need the knife to pop the cover out. If the cover doesn't come off easily, don't force it to much. Just do a few more passes witht the knife and the the wiggle thing with it. The cover will eventually be able to be taken off.

The purple arrow points to that little black ribber thing I forgot to mention that there's glue on there to and it will be a little wrestling match to get it off. But once that rubber piece is lose, the whole light assembly will come out.

If you're going to paint, paint only the top part (the brown side) with the LED coming out and not the green part where all the soldering connections are. Use a small brush to get in the small spaces. I used Rustoleum paint in a can (NOT SPRAY CAN) that you can brush on.

Have Fun!!
Peace
