DudesRT's 2001 Dodge Durango

> NEW BLOWER/MOTOR BUILD UP: As of 10/07: Motor is completely assembled, dual-sync distributor is in, and the main harness for the Accel DFI system is in. The Accel Gen7 DFI system allows me to run 83lb injectors all the way around, without auxiliaries. It will provide a more precise tune..... better than the stock ECM with the Perfect Power Modules I had previously. I've been able to track down the electrical gremlins and solve them by installing a Painless 7circuit aux fuse block. The intercooler water tank and Setrab have been mounted in place of the spare tire with the fill hole in the rear storage bin in the floor. The blue top Optima battery was replaced with a Kinetic.

Chassis is still in the progress of being painted black with rust encapsulation paint. About 3/4 of the truck is done and so far it has given everything a deep glossy black look.

Still got some minor things fab up, but the above pics are pretty much what the completed motor looks like. Some things have recently been polished to a mirror finish to add a little more flash under the hood. I've also switched from Spintech 2 in/2 out muffler to dual Magnaflows.

> NEW BRAKES, PADS, BALL JOINTS: Also recently completed is the install of Baer Eradispeed rotors with Hawk pads, Moog ball joints, as well as some TRICK caliper covers from LagunaSpeed. I'm satisfied now that the truck has new brakes and shocks all the way around.

> STEREO SYSTEM INSTALLATION HAS BEGUN: I've begun to install the myriad of components I've had stored for quite some time now. A slight hint of what is to come can be found at the bottom of this page a some pics are on Page 4.

I prefer that stock, but not so stock look. With the subtle yet aggressive additions to the exterior, I feel I've accomplished that. Then of course there's what lies under the hood.

The engine mods have been done in stages. Initially, all I wanted was to make some moderate changes to the motor to help improve upon the already powerfull 5.9L 360. But as I should have realized as with all the cars I've owned in the past I really can't leave well enough alone. :-)

"Stage I" was a top-end mod. In June of 2002 I ordered my package from Dan Arcand, (thefastman.com). My D was then dyno'd at Ida Automotive (idaautomitive.com) for final tuning of the Unichip piggy-back controller. To recap, this is what was done:

- Custom ported/re-valved heads
- Matching ported 2bbl. Mopar M1 intake
- Custom ground cam
- Crane Gold rockers.

This was in combination to the cold air intake, custom PCM flash from B&G Chrysler, Fastman ported throttle body, and custom dual exhaust with Tri-Y headers that was already installed. The results were VERY impressive... I gained 75hp over stock at the wheels.

"Stage II" was the addition of the Kenne Bell blower which gave me an additional 90hp at the wheels @ 10lbs boost. I also had my tranny built up as well to accomodate the intense torque of the blower.

But NOW, EVERYTHING has dramatically changed! "Stage III": A complete motor swap has taken place and there's now a blown, stroked, and injected 6.7L 408 under those scoops. The new motor is 8.5>1 compression, a perfect environment for a supercharger. Anything above 8.5>1 and you risk blowing out your bottom end. THIS is the final stage of the motor... or at least I hope so. :-)

You can however get an idea of what was accomplished with the Kenne Bell supercharger installed on the old 5.9L... check out page 7.

So, what have I done inside? Well, there's a 40pc. genuine carbone fiber kit with a few splashes of brushed aluminum. CHECK OUT MY OWN CUSTOM GAUGES ON PAGE 4.

Sound system is no longer stock, in the works and hopefully to be completed by Spring 2008 is a system comprising of an Alpine CDA-7998 head unit, Alpine 6-disc changer and 5200 DVD player with 7" monitors built right into the visors. Also, a Pyle 17" screen will be mounted overhead. Everything will be powered by JL Audio amps with Audiobahn 3-way component speakers fiberglassed into the doors and two 10" ALUM10Q subs in the hatch in a custom enclosure. The idea is to have thunderous bass and still be able to retain functionality of the cargo space..... that is of course if I actually use the truck to haul stuff. LOL!

I've started the install and initial pics are posted on Page 4.

So what you may ask is my ultimate goal in building up this truck? Well, for one I love surprising people. Not many folks expect to see, or HEAR for that matter, a totally customized Durango. Let's admit, it's not the first vehicle of choice within the majority of custom trucks. Second, I plan on attending as many custom vehicle shows as I can when it's finally complete. Any exposure I can get is going to help me get noticed and published in a magazine or two. A few publications have contacted me already but since the truck is not done yet, well, ya gotta have a completed vehicle first to even be considered page worthy material.

What other surprises do I have in store? Well, stay tuned cuz I'm not revealing all my secrets and plans just yet. ;-)

Be sure to check out the pics in the pages to follow... Don't miss page 8 for details on the PREMIER club for Dodge Durango enthusiasts!!!

Sign my guestbook and vote!!
