This is my new 1983 Firebird Trans Am. I say "new" because I bought it in April '02 with only 17,610 miles on it (it still has that new-car smell). I got a thumbs-up from all three of the mechanics that took a look at it, so I know this bad boy is in top shape. We didn't find any rust anywhere on the car (that's a relief). It rattles here and there, but that's to be expected from an older car. I've added a new layer of foam under the carpeting, behind the panels, and in the rear wheel wells.
As far as modifications go, I originally bought it with the intention of making it into a KITT conversion, but it looks so nice I'm definitely having second thoughts. You won't see any add-ons to this classic (it'll officially be a classic on 3/8/03), but if you do it'll be a full-blown Knight Rider look (remember the talking car?). The process would involve replacing the entire stock dash with a custom, functional, digital layout. The exterior would require that the car be painted all black, and a custom front bumper be installed (it has the cutout for the red scanning light).
I thought about tinting my windows, but I've decided not to go through with it. Dark windows are nice, but the car looks much better the way it is.
