Im Phil Skiba and this is my 83 Hurst/Olds, no its not a monte carlo, or the car hat you put dead people in.
Its an 83 15th aniversary Hurst/Olds, its got about 100,000 miles on it and is still running awesome.
I just found some of the specs on the engine and other parts so here they are:
Engine: 5.0L 307
HP: 180 @ 4,000
Tourque: 245 @ 3,200
Bore x Stroke: 3.800 x 3.385
Compression: 8.0:1
Transsmission: THM-200-4R
Rear End: 3:73 Limited Slip
So theres some usefull info. and finally the car...
Heres a couple pics of the little 307. over the summer i had to do some fixing on it. I just recently replaced the timming set. At first i set it 4 degrees advanced to see what it would do but it just didnt feel any stronger or even the same as it was so i took it all back apart and set it straight up again.
The interior is pretty nice still. i try to take really good care of it and its always in the garage so it doesnt see the sun longer than it should. and of course theres the 3 shifters so the girlfriend can get 3 times the practice. I tried to show a pic of the odometer it just turned over to 0 (100,000) miles.
I havent done too much to the car mostly cause i drove it hard this summer so my money went to making it run again. This summer i had to completley replace the entire distributor, rebuilt the carb, new air filter, all new tires, fixed the radio (thats right the stock radio), couple of new gas lines, cooling lines, new timming set, another new distributor (well the gear), punched out the catylitic converter. as seen below
Its there, theres just nothin in it. and i bought a couple of super 40s for it but on the way to get em put on is when i had the little timming problem, so needless to say that money went to getting it running again. and speaking of the new tires heres some parts of em right here
and heres about the only after market part of my engine that you can see, my accel super coil that doesnt really make a difference in these engines anyway, but it looks cool.
im really proud of my car. i know theres a lot cooler cars out there and i wish i had some of them but at least i can always say that mines 1 of only 3,001. if any of you that come here have an 83 hurst olds, yes theres 3,001 because the last one that was made was white and was made special for Linda Vaughn, the spokesperson for Hurst and Olds. thats really all ive got.
down the road ive got some big plans for it including a built 350, built 700-r4 tranny, and a nice 4:11 posi rear end. hmm check back in about 7 years it might be done by then. and of course im a member of this awesome club, and might i add the membership is always up to date and very awesome. where else can you get the chance to drive your car on the brickyard at Indy or on MIS at 90 MPH
