Not long after the 280,000 kms service a few months back, I noticed slightly higher engine oil consumption and lower levels of coolant. As my car is approaching 12 years old, I decided to fix it up by the 300,000 kms mark. A wet and dry compression test confirmed uneven readings for 2 of the 4 pistons. Since it's recommended to do a top overhaul, I decided to fix the problem real good and go for a full overhaul instead. This will make it easier for the mechanic and save me money and downtime in the future.
The car was 'checked into the hotel' on 13th December. I was told it will take at least 10 working days. Doesn't matter, as long as the 'patient' comes out in excellent condition.
Below are the pictures of the engine bay, before and after engine removal.
Look at the clearance after engine removal. The height may be due to using 12K shock absorbers.
