Car's History
I purchased this car in early March of 2001. It was my second car, my first being a black 1957 Chevrolet 210 4 door sedan with a 235 cid Thriftmaster Six, cast iron powerglide, and only 26,000 documented original miles. Why did I let it go? Well, it was my grandmother's car, it needed brakes, and it had as much rust and dents as chrome.
So I was in the market for a car, namely a blue Buick Regal. My dad and I found this car and I bought it for $1675 two days later. I drove it with the original Evenfire 231 cid V6 until the following December (9 months). Lets just say the engine lost all oil pressure during a high rpm display of cookie-cutting ability.
My dad and I went up to the local pick-your-part emporium a few days later and spotted a big 6.6L Olds hiding in a wrecked LeSabre. After 2 months and 5 days, the newly refurbished junkyard jewel roared to life in the Regal. It was a truly joyous occasion, indeed.
During the following spring and summer various finishing touches were applied, such as tires, gauges, tach, exhaust system, recharged AC system.
This fall so far we've put in the floor shifter, custom bucket seats, and shocks. The car never fails to start (at least it hasn't yet) even in the cold weather.
A major factor in the fact that this car is a reliable daily driver is the fact that the mods are kept simple and mostly mild to stock. For example, the carburetor. You can call it a Quadrabog or Quadraflush all you want, but you can't argue with consistent 20-21 mpg on the highway. In fact, I've driven this combo over 4,000 miles since we swapped motors, and they've been relatively trouble-free.
The best stress relief in the world comes in an easy-to-swallow dose of fat Detroit muscle!
**UPDATE**
Well I'm pissed! My dad backed into me in our driveway back in May, and the insurance company won't pay for it because I don't have collision insurance on the Regal, and also because both cars are on the same policy.
So anyways, my new brother-in-law Rob can do body work REEEALLY well, so we are going to repair the damage, and also repaint the whole car, because the paint is starting to oxidize and fade pretty bad in some spots.
Ok, we've got the whole car in primer now, and the dent has been pretty well taken out of the door jamb and the quarter panel, but the door is still messed up. Tried on my Grand National hood, but it's in worse shape than I thought, so we're just gonna graft the GN hood scoop onto my orginal hood. Oh, also got the rag top ripped off (what a bitch of a job!!) and ground down the studs that hold that thing on, and did a little skim filler to smooth out the whole passenger side, trunk, roof, and drivers side fender. Also primered the entire car (pics up soon!)
Put headers on..
Only took me THREE FREAKIN' DAYS!!
haha, I'm slow, but its a pain in the ass crack to put headers on an SBO in a G-body, and it was hot out, and it was late and I was tired, so that's why it took so freakin' long.
What I would like do in the future:
-Baer brakes
-Hotchkis springs
-Front speakers
-Detail engine compartment
-Different wheels
-Make a suggestion!
