This is my 1983 AMC Spirit GT that I bought on eBay from Kenosha, Wisconsin, the home of AMC.
I used to have a blue 1982 AMC Spirit here from Texas, but it got into a little accident. I had to do a panic stop, and the car didn't have anti-lock brakes, so the brakes locked up and I went spinning into a telephone pole. It landed on the passenger quarter panel, and essentially totalled the car. So instead of paying $4,000 to fix it, I bought my current car on eBay for $700.
The picture I uploaded is just after I got it home from the shipping truck. I've swapped the Turbocast II wheels to my previous wheels that are similar to Magnum 500s. Swapped out the 4 speed that grinded in second for a 3 speed automatic, and put back on my 2 1/2-inch custom exhaust.
My plans for the car have changed :). Right now, I plan to merge the AMC 4.2L with a Jeep 4.0L, bore and stroke to 282 Cubic Inches, and 4.6 Liters, after which I intend to add a turbo charger if the added power will be worth the money cost.

As of right now, the car just got a Ford 8.8" rear end, and it's waiting to get it's newly rebuilt 700R4 put in behind the 258. After the tranny, it gets a 2nd muffler for an x-piped dual exhaust. Then I'm done for the time being on mechanics and gonna work on looks :D.
Still need to get A/C though =/.

Now the car has the 4.2L connected via an adapter plate to the chevy 700R4. The front end of the car feels weighed down considerably more than with the previous trans, but thats because the 3 speed was tiny. Some beating into the floor panel had to be done to get the 700R4 to fit, but the improvement in gas mileage was worth it. Pulling a 23 mpg average...when driven mostly highway and with a 'cautious' driver ;).
The Clifford parts I ordered were very disappointing. The dual-exhaust headers needed cutting to fit, and the X-Pipe they sold me had holes in the welds. Guess thats what happens when you drive an AMC and you don't have much of a choice on where to get your parts =/.
I do love the sound the dual Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers give my straight 6. I guess its as close to a V8 sound as I'm gonna get, at least until I can afford to put in the 305 in the garage.
