A drawing i did of my truck. It's a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer 2WD with the 5.0 V8.
UPDATE 11/1/2008:
Not much has changed with the truck.
I've taken it out offroad a couple times, i've gone up into the Angeles Nat'l Forest north of LA, and out to Truckhaven and Ocotillo Wells in the desert. Since the last update i acquired a 1991 Ford Explorer 4x4 which is lifted on 35" tires. I bought it to use as a purely offroad truck, to use everywhere from prerunning to rock crawling, and use the mountaineer as a daily driver, but things aren't working out as well as i had anticipated and the explorer is now for sale (ask me for more info if you're interested). I have always wanted to get an AWD V8 mountaineer and convert it to 4x4 and LT it and use that in place of the explorer and the mountaineer, but recently i realized that even if it's 4x4 it wouldn't be strong enough for rockcrawling, so i decided to keep the mountaineer i have and built it up slowly into a prerunner and continue to use it as a DD. My future plans for modifications are constantly changing, but below i have listed what i think is the direction i will take it in for the next stage of the build up.

Here is my truck recently in Pismo, stuck with my right rear tire buried and my left front in the air. This is my reasoning for the upcoming detroit true-trac.
Digging
I was finally free with the help of two trucks pulling and 5 guys pushing.
Back at camp, you can see my newly trimmed bumper and the painted grill.
black tow-hooks on the front of the truck, they stick out through the front bumper on either side of the license plate. They are rated for 10,000 lbs. (sorry its a crappy camera phone pic)
Here are the custom brackets made for the tow-hooks, there was no available and accessible space on the frame and i didnt want them behind the bumper. the left and right are perfectly symmetrical and they look like they came from the factory.
Taken right after a bath. It looks a lot higher in person than in this picture.
Shown from the back
It fits into the garage ok as far as height, but my front license plate and the filing cabinet against the wall are proof that its a tight squeeze as far as length.
Clear corners on a mountaineer, that's right, they're actually made! This is with the amber bulbs.
And this is after with the white bulbs.
These are the clear corners at night with white bulbs
Got it from a magazine...my friend has one on his jeep cherokee.
I parked next to an Explorer that i am presuming has 3" spindles and 3" TT, looks much bigger than mine
This was my first car, a 92 explorer. This is the day it was sold with 225,000 miles...you can see the mounty has taken its place in the garage.
