Story
I bought this car back in September of 2005. Prior to this, I had owned 2 other Mustang GT's. The first was a 2001 Mustang GT, I bought in April 2005 and totalled on the 4th of July 2005. After I had heard it was totalled, I felt absolutely horrible. I knew that I had to get another Mustang to fill that gap in my heart. Well, in late July I bought a 2002 Mustang GT. It was very clean, indeed a beautiful car, and I loved it so much. It ran better and faster than the 2001.
Well, I had that Mustang for less than a month, when I was basically ran off the road by another car driving the opposite direction in my lane!! A few days later when I heard that the insurance company totalled my car, I was destroyed. I couldn't believe it happened. This was a very sad moment in my life already with family issues, so this had a huge impact on me.
Well, after that incident, i started looking at my options in another Mustang. I looked pretty extensively for one, and finally found a possibility. It was an 03 Mach 1. I drove that car, and loved it. It felt so much more powerful than my GT's. But fate didn't let me have it. We couldn't get to numbers that I could afford. So the search was still on.
A couple days later, on cars.com, I found the 2001 Cobra!! I looked at it and loved it. The internet price was very low, so I knew that it was affordable. A couple more day passed, and I bought it.
The first thing that was done to it, while still at the dealership, was the addition of the supercharger. They installed a P1sc supercharger kit, running 6 lbs of boost and a 2 core intercooler. After that, I took it to my house.
A couple of weeks past by, and when I noticed that I was getting beat by Camaro SS's, even with the supercharger, I decided to see just how much HP I was making. I took it to the local dyno jet, and to my surprise, my car was running dangerously lean. It was still running on stock computer, so the first mod I did was getting it dyno tuned. They installed a sct chip, and custom tuned it. This increased my power a good amount, as well as making it safer to run.
The next modification I had in mind, was to increase to 10 lbs of boost, but of course, it not that easy. Basically, I had to get a fuel pump upgrade as well as a new MAF sensor first. Money was tight, so I had to wait a while. Well in October of 2005, after running my car pretty hard, I heard a knock in the engine. It was very loud. I knew that I had thrown a rod. The engine already had over 60,000 miles on it, so to me, it was understandable.
So what do I do. The only option I had, was to get a new block. Now this lead to the most expensive and biggest mistake of my life. Replacing my blown up stock block, with a brand new STOCK block. Keyword: STOCK. I don't know why I didn't upgrade to all forged internals at that time. But long story short, I spent $7,000 on a block that, 2 months later, blew up again. Ofcourse there was no warranty, so I was screwed. Well, at this time, it is early 2006, and I decided after blowing up my second engine, it was time to go all forged internals, lower compression, and cast iron block. A block that can withstand up to 1000 hp. All this cost me about $9,000 including the maf upgrade as well as the fuel pump upgrade and 10 lbs of boost.
Well, with my P1sc, I actually only got 8 lbs of boost, and the 2 core intercooler was maxed. I still wasn't even making 500 hp, so I knew it was time for another expensive upgrade!!
I got the F1-A supercharger head unit to replace my p1sc. Instead of being limited to 8 lbs of boost, I can now have 20+ lbs of boost. Also, comes the 3 core intercooler as well as some other modifications, including a complete racing fuel system, mainly used for big turbo applications.
