Hey everyone, this is my Hyundai Excel. Tell you what, some people sure dont seem to like these cars much, and i dont know why really. Probably just because of the bad reputation set up by the X3's predecessor, the X2. But hey, enough words, lets get some stats hey?

Page 1:My Excel
Page 2:DIY Mods

ENGINE:
Alpha Series II
1495cc, 4 valves per cylinder
Multi-point fuel-injection
Belt driven DOHC
Power: 74kW [100hp] @ 5800rpm [Redlines at 6000rpm!]
Torque: 133Nm [101 foot-pounds] @ 3000rpm
Weight: 940kg empty, 1040 with driver [80kg] + half fuel load
Misc: 'Redline' conical air filter pod.

UPDATE: So far, top speed is 165km/h [100mph]. Think it might top at 170 or 175km/h [~105mph], but itd need a good run up. If it was able to redline, itd be doing around 200km/h [122mph], but i think i'd need more power to overcome wind resistance.

I gotta admit, if theres one thing I'm fussy about its my engine bay, I cant stand having a filthy engine. One it looks shit, and two it can cause rust if theres too much crud slopping around. Anyways, from the pics you can see my Redline pod-filter. I would highly recommend one of these [or similar] to anyone wanting a cheap and effective performance part. Check out page two if you wanna fit one but aren't all that sure that you want to go for it without a guide.

BODY:
I'm quite fortunate as I've been able to score this with a full bodykit including front, rear & side spoilers. Colour is dark midnight blue, with tinted windows to top it off. Came with low profile mags as well :D Add to that the blue-Xenon headlights I bought, and it doesnt look too bad.
UPDATE:Replaced the 60/55 watt headlight globes with superbright 130/90 watt globes! Awesome penetration, looks insane when youre facing them. Have made some eye-lids from blue vinyl, as well as flames for the rear side windows. Pics coming soon

SOUND:
Sound system is stock for the moment, so I cant really do much. Its just the four standard speakers and a factory radio/tape deck. I'm replacing that with the head unit from my last car, a Sony with EQ3 and DSO [equaliser and 3d layered sound function], which actually sounds really damn good. Hoping to install it soon.
As well as that, I built a subwoofer enclosure myself for it, just a twin pair of 8 inches in a 2 square foot enclosure. Picked up a cheap 400W amp, so should pump some decent bass.
UPDATE: Just put in some Sony 6.5" two-way speakers in the rear. Fitting them was insane, had to mod some of the plastics near the mounting area. Seamless fit once that was done though.
UPDATE: Sony CD player fitted! WOO YEAH! Also, got some Panasonic 4" two-way front speakers to replace the original ones. The whole system now pumps some decent bass, with a great mid-range and top-end.
UPDATE: Subwoofer project finally got off the ground. Made the enclosure myself from 12mm MDF, and then screwed and glued it together. Covered it in boot-lining and tacked and glued that down. Inserted speakers, connected amp, installed the wiring under the right hand door ledge covering because its dry and easy to remove.

INTERIOR:
Just the standard interior, but I love the seats, they are just sporty enough for some hard driving, but are still comfortable as well. Thinking of getting some seat covers or something to hide the daggy fabric pattern :S Least I have functional air-con, lol.
UPDATE: Scored seat covers for 20 bucks the lot! makes the interior look a stack better, a tad more comfortable as well. Pics coming soon.
UPDATE: Just got Tachometer fitted. Only a 2", but it tells me what i'm revving so i dont really care what it looks like. Blends in well with the interior colour scheme though.

Must say i agree totally with the fact us Excels drivers get a bad rap. I always hated them till i had no choice but to buy one. But now i wont get rid of it for no one. I think its pretty funny how guys think oh yeah a chick in a grandmas excel then they laugh out the side of their face when t kicks their ass.... GO THE EXCELS:P

hey me again, just read your bit about the POD... can I make a suggestion... make a heat shield for it, then you'll actually get cold air as opposed to hot air, and so will actually gain power and not just a nice note... Good job man... keep us posted! ;)
