Fiberglass & Custom Bodywork

Here is a brief rundown of some of the custom fiberglass work I'v done to my MX-5.

Above: The cutout was made with a jigsaw using a fine tooth blade, then the work of finishing off the opening with fiberglass & bondo was started.

Above: Ther Rear bumper after cutout. Kinda unsettling taking a jigsaw to almost a $1000 worth of body panels.

Above: Finished product on the car. The opening was finished off with SS masonary screen from Home Depot. The same was done with the opening in the Rear Bumper.

Above: The factory hood being Aluminum didn't allow me to be able to weld the Headlight covers to it. So I had to get an aftermarket Steel hood (good price-$121) to have them welded to. A good friend (who is building a killer 2.4l turbo Ranger with a full coil-over suspension and boxed in frame) did the welding, which came out excellent and required a minimal amount of bondo to smooth out considering the situation.

This was only a temporay fix until I decided on whether or not to build a custom carbon/fiberglass hood, or just modify the cowl induction Fiberglass hood already on the market. But now I've just learned that Mazda Motorsports makes a competion spec hood that already doesn't have the headlights cut out. I will be getting one of these and am planning on modifying it with some functional scoops & ducts. Don't worry it won't be ricey.
