Interior & Stereo

My stereo system was custom done myself as well as 99% of the work on my car. I figured out quickly, and at an early age, that the stuff I wanted done to my car was too expensive to have done by a shop, I started to do it myself and learned that I could do things the way I wanted. That was 10 years ago and I've learned alot which brings me to the current setup which is not complete but will be hopefully for this show season.

Above: This is Custom Sub Enclosure that is located in the Passengers Footwell(PAX) and replaces the Factory ECU location, which has been relocated to the glovebox. The enclosure is made of fiberglass, bodyfiller and MDF. It measures .33 cu ft and houses a JL Audio 8w6. The passenger only loses about 3" of legroom and the setup has hit 130db in competition.

Above: The Head Unit is an older Eclipse unit. The signal then goes to a 1/4 DIN Kenwood 5 Band EQ w/ sub x-over.

It then moves through custom made twisted pair RCA cables to a Crutchfield Amplifier that puts out 30w x 2 and 60w x 1.

Above: Don't think for a minute that this Amp isn't any good, it was built for Crutchfield by PPI and is very underated. It is now 9 years old and still sounds wonderful.

Signal continues through custom made twisted pair speaker wire to MB Quart 3- way passive x-overs in the glovebox. Then onto MB Quart Stealth Series 6.5" Midbass in the doors and 1" Tweeters in the top defroster vents.(not pictured yet)

Above: The Pioneer 3.5" Center Channel is powered by the - terminal of one x-overs midrange channels and the + terminal of the other. It gives just a perfect touch of center volume, to create a decent center stage even for a small car such as the Miata.

Above: The Amp is being covered by a molded fiberglass cover. I'm in the process of building it now.

Above: Its an old Miata T-shirt I'm using to get the general shape of the cover. That's the 1st layer of Fiberglass. It will be painted to match the car.

Above: Here is the almost finished amp cover. It just needs to be sanded completely again and repainted. The design on the sides of the amp are supposed to be the "wings" of the Mazda logo. The cut-outs are backed with plexiglass painted white. Better pics to come, when completed!

Above:Here are the Dry Cell battery and the Autosound 2000 Stiffening Cap. The battery is about 75% of the size of the stock battery and has no problem keeping up with the electrical requirements of my car...so far. Custom brackets are being made for the battery.

Above: The door panels are almost completed just some finishing touches needed.

The other parts of the interior are being worked on when they are completed they will be posted. They include Autopower 4 point roll bar, custom gauge pods, custom built console, no-key required push button starting, + some other trick yet to be revealed....stay tuned!
