This is my 1990 Mazda Miata dubbed "MIATASM". It was purchased in March of 1994 from Maple Shade Mazda in Turnersville,NJ. It came with 52,000 miles, previously owned by the wife of one of the managers. The story goes like this: I wanted something fun & fast to replace my 87' Ford Ranger lowrider (not that the truck wasn't fun it just wasn't COMPLETELY fun, I still have the truck and am doing some major mods on it, it will be posted eventally!!). So while driving to various car dealerships I was stopped dead in my tracks at MSM by THE car a 1992 Mercury Capri turbo. WHAT you say! At the time I was thinking(or not thinking in this case) TURBO=Fast CONVERTIBLE=Fun!! Only one problem it was RED!!!! Not that I have anything against RED I just didn't want a red car (I was looking for white) I did some more strolling around the lot and noticed a white Miata nonchalantly sitting in the back on the used car lot. I looked at it and compared the two wthout driving them (mistake #2, the first one being actually looking at the Merc):
The Miata had 52,000 miles, 2 seats, 1.6 liter norm. aspirated engine, it was a 90' and more expensive-------The Capri had 48,000 miles, it was a 2+2, 1.8 liter turbo engine, it was a 92' and it was less expensive---------- >
Advantage: Capri
Fortunatly, I couldn't get over the color! This was something I wanted and didn't want to have to settle for anything less! So I drove the Miata---- ----GAME OVER the Merc never had a chance!!!!
I finally took delivery the day after I test drove it March 28,1994. I couldn't even sleep that night I wanted to drive it with top down soooo bad so me and my girlfriend (now wife) got up about 1:30 am dropped the top and drove around for about 10 min before we relized that it was March and it was about 32 degrees outside. The drive didn't last much longer than that. The Miata bug bit me hard that night. Fast forward to present day. The car now has almost 150,000 miles on it and has been through alot but I still love it just as much if not more now!
