Jon2001sc2's 1994 Chevrolet Camaro

The car being raced at Lime Rock in 94, Photo by Tom Hildreth

This car started out being built from scratch by Morgan Motorsports to replace its championship winning #47 Oldsmobile Cutlass in the 1994 IMSA season. The car was run 6 times in GTO class during the 1994 season by Charles Morgan and his son Rob. The car was sold off in 1996-7 depending on the source along with the now #48 Olds (the #47 was being carried by the Camaro). From here the two cars parted company. The Olds has gone on to run in everything from GT-1, historics, to the 2001 24hr of Daytona where it took 4th in AGT. The Camaro suffered a quite different fate. Rather than being sold off as a roller, it was striped down and parted out. In 2005 I found the frame listed for sale through www.roadraceparts.com where I bought it. Today the car is being rebuilt from the ground up to be raced once again. While it is eligible for SCCA GT-1, it requires more money to be invested to be competitive than I can afford as a student. I will be restoring the car with an eye towards historic racing with SVRA and HSR.

Here are a few photos of the Rocketsports #25 camaro, this car is fairly similar in appearance to mine when finished. Under the skin is a different story.

While I will have one body painted for historical events I plan on eventually having a second body prepared for track events painted similar to this one.

Jon......... You have a good start. A good straight frame is a big plus. The good thing about your car is that there are some reliable sources to reproduce the suspension geometry and selecting brakes. As for the drivetrain, you can use whatever you like within your budget. If you like road racing like I do, then the suspension and brakes are the most important part anyway. You can always change the engine or add HP. Keep working at it. You're not building a car, you're investigating a suspension setup and brake combination. Next you are looking for a motor and tranny to fit. Then you are deciding where you want tanks and hoses, sheetmetal and such. Building a whole car is too tough. One piece at a time makes it much easier. That's how I had to do it. If you need some GT1 contacts, I have some. Let me know and I email them to you.
