This axle is out of a 1983 pickup im currently rebuilding it using 4.88 Gears to match the rear and replace all the seals and Bearings in the knuckles
4.88 Gears
So far the solid axle swap is going good it has been frustrating though. The reason for it being so frustrating is the fact that my lower balljoint on the driver side decided it didnt want to hold any longer(9-1-06). The outcome? 800 dollars later and a messed up fender I was able to have my truck towed to the shop but that is just a start of more things to come. After they started to cut off my old suspension and get the new started, it came to the installation of the Trans and Tcase because for some who may not know my truck is or was only two wheel drive. Anyway the Trans and tcase I had came out of a v6 and wouldn't want to bolt up because of the bell housings are different so its off to find a Trans and tcase I tried and tried and there was only one that could be found so after a withdrawal of 850 dollars I had one that came out of a 4cyl. After that I thought it should be fine and there will be no more problems man was I wrong. it ends up that all 4 x 4 Toyotas have power steering and the gearbox was held on by 3 bolts to the frame well mine was only a two wheel drive and I didn't have power steering so my gearbox was only held on by two bolts and the pitman arm wouldn't be strong enough. The result would be a lot of stress on that gearing box and sometime when I'm on the trail or highway all that stress would make my gearbox rip off my frame and lose complete control of my truck. The solution convert to power steering so about 650 dollars later I got a rebuilt gear box, steering pump, brackets pulleys and a reservoir I know have power steering. Well I just couldn't believe all of what was happening I mean I was getting thrown curve balls and change ups left and right man this kind of sucks with all this money I didn't plan on having to spend and if that's not bad enough this isn't including labor to install everything. well today it ends up now I need new calipers.I thought what am I going to do but I had to run over all of these obstacles as I would be doing in my truck off roading and keep on keep on and this is were it brings me to today 9-11-06 I will update this soon Well it ends up my truck is so tall i cant install my front drive shaft because it is at such an angle it wont rotate so ill have to rotate my axle housing but in the mean time ill use some six degree shims to wedge it.
Well the six degree shims got in the way of my tie rods so i went ahaed and thought well the single ujoint set up on the slip yoke has enough articulation so i would just go and buy another front d shaft cut off the slip yoke and had it welded to my slipyoke i already had well that did work but not for long the vibration was so bad it shook my entire truck and that was only at 5mph. well after that since i had two slip yokes there was to much travel and on yoke slip out so the shaft piece still conected hit my trans and took a chunk out of it and it wrapped itself in my emergency brake cable then it mest up my splines on both ends plus busted my u joints.
So after all that I ended up having to buy a new front slip yoke which was 200 bucks and a 40 degree high angle CV joint which was 500 bucks but this should fix my problem.
WELL I GOT MY TRUCK BACK I CAN FIT 39 INCH TIRES BUT NO MONEY RIGHT NOW SO ILL STICK WITH MY 31s
New Pics of SAS
Well bad news I was going to denver CO to buy a set of 37inch Iroks and i was about 10miles from the 4wheel parts and the unthinkable happend. Somehow my transfercase ripped away from my transmission and from there it ripped away from my crossmember mounts. I just heard a loud bang bang bang and an intense vibration so i pulled over and i smell gear oil and see it pouring from my truck so i look under and Theres a big emptyness under my truck and im thinking what the hell so I look to the other side of the highway and i see my transfercase then behind it I see parts of my drive shafts and my emargncy brake as well and im just caught in shock I just couldnt belive on how this happened So i just called 911 to get help and to get my truck back to Wy So the tow truck came and after a 438$ tow bill i got it to my apartment. The next day i woke up and was relieved it was a dream so I go outside and well unfortanetly it wasnt a dream it was all real so after i spend some time looking things over this is the parts thats got damaged and are now needing to be replaced My front and rear driveshafts, Fuel lines, Emergency brake, speedometer sensor, transmission and transfercase, fuel tank, big hole in floor board, crossmember mount. P.S. I NEVER GOT MY NEW TIRES.
ILL GET PHOTOS UP SOON
