Well... I went to the 9th Annual Mopar Car Show this past Saturday Sept 3rd 2005, and competed against approximately 70 other really hot Plymouths, Dodges, Chryslers, and AMC cars from the 1930's to present. I was unfortunately grouped in a class with 3 PT Cruisers (1 was my other car!) and a 2000 Plymouth Prowler! Much to my dismay as they were calling out 1st and second in each class...A PT Cruiser won 1st simply because of being total stock compared to my PT which was modified(and points were deducted for that class), Second award went to the Prowler, which I personally thought was more impressive than the PT ....but anyway...at this point I was little disheartened. I thought the Laser whipped those two easy!? All that work and a 1 in 5 chance of getting something...and nothing! Well hold on...the final award was called out...and I was ready to pack it in and not do another show for quite a while, and just then I heard, as I was wishing this thing was over... "the award for BEST OF SHOW goes to the 1985 Chrysler Laser owned by Scott Hill!" Well needless to say I was beside myself....My baby that I pampered and toiled over since I bought it in May 1985...in it's first ever show, validated it's existence, and my insistence for keeping it in this condition for 20 years! I never in my wildest dreams would have thought this car could beat ALL the muscle cars from the 60's and 70's and all the new Mopar hot rods...but it did! This is a lesson to all of us Laser owners ...this car IS UNIQUE and collectible...so fix 'em up and hold onto them.... the biggest comment I got from the people who flocked to see it after the show was .... "I've never seen a car like this"...what is it? These were Mopar people that were unaware of this era in Chrysler history....Very few remain...and what we have are genuine pieces of Mopar history...Keep the chain alive everybody! Lasers are now #1...and believe me...this will not be the last show it goes to....The attention it drew from the others after it was crowned "Best of Show", was a real head trip....and all that work was rewarded.... and finally thanks to my wonderful wife, for having the patience to put up with me spending so much time with my car for all those hours, in the past few weeks, and all those years!
