The beast you see before you was destined to be a spare parts wreck. We brought it for spare parts for another ute , for $75.

We forklifted it onto the trailer and took it home. It had flat tires, shit in the back of it (branches, leaves, rusty metal), no doors, and a smashed windscreen. We got it home and pumped up the tyres and cleaned out the back of it. Just out of interest we put in some fresh spark plugs, plug leads and a battery in it, put some fuel down the carby, and turned the key. It coughed, sputtered, and started!!!, so we drove it off the trailer and into the shed.
We sat down and had a look at it. The tray was rusted through, so were the floors in the front, the seats were absolutely shagged. We didnt think it was in as bad condition as we first thought, so we thought we may as well keep it in one piece.
So we got to work.
We got some seats from the dump for free, and the roof off a station wagon to use for the floors. We went to pull the windscreen back up because these are the models with the folding down windscreen and sat it up straight. As we were walking away it fell over. We had a look to see what happened and what we didnt see before was the rust around where the windscreen mounts meet the body. It just pulled the mounts straight out!. So we kept going....
We pulled the old seats out and welded the second hand ones on. We cut out the back tray and put a new piece of sheet metal (from that roof from the dump) into the hole and welded it in. We did the same with the floors in the front too with the rest of the sheet metal. We replaced the old fuel filter with a better one. We flushed the fuel system out, cleaned the carby, and welded a bull bar on. Finally, we put a new(er) exhaust system in.

This is what it looked like after the day's work:

Holes from where the windscreen mounts pulled out from the body. we havent bothered to put any thing back on. its a bit crap on cold days when you speed around though.

The new seats!!

Its still going today as strong as ever. It does good burnouts because the front brakes are the only ones that work. Just hold the brakes on, put it in second, drop the clutch and give it some revs. Its awesome!, smoke flies from the exhaust AND from the tyres HAHA.

UPDATE
07/10/05

I got bored and put some really rough, white gt stripes on it (out of pure boredom).
Popped one of the tyres doing burnouts, so I put some huge
sunrasia rims and tyres on it. Theyre 31x10.5 kuhmo and hankook tyres. They stick out the sides of the fenders about 2 inches!.
We're putting a roll cage on soon (hopefully within 3 months).
Here's some pics of it as it is now.

Either the g-box, transfer case or a diff has blown, any ideas you rocky drivers out there??

14 jan 2007
We fixed that problem ages ago we had a spare transmission and transfer case so we just swapped them and its still goin today, the good old 75 buck bomb. still going to make a rollcage.

UPDATE

the new gearbox is going strong, the motor is getting a little weaker, but otherwise fine. Photo of it today, below.

Your Daihatsu is the nicest and coolest I have seen so far mate. It is a classic, loks like a rugged off road vehicl4e ( shape ) I like it better then more modern rockies.
I hope you go on and fix the body rust. That car is beautifull. I love it, I would buy it irf I was any where close to Australia.....
Congratulations!!!
