My names Garner and I work as a mechanic at a ford dealership while going to school for Ford auto mechanics. I bought the car in April of 2004 with 7,000 miles on it and heres what it looked like:
(all of the pictures above are extremely old, i will update soon)
(me in the garage)
(the picture above is more recent)
About a month after buying it i added MAC's fake dual cat-back system on with the stainless steel tips.
(the Deutschland 'D' is no longer there, don't worry haha)
(this picture was taken after they were removed and re-painted)
The tone was nice, but definately more mellow than i wanted so i ditched that system and bought myself the following:
Mac Shorty Headers
Mustang Tuning Pypes catted X pipe
SLP Loudmouth I Cat back set up with 3 1/2 inch double rolled tips
After those mods i was a bit happier with the tone and sound level that the little V6 put out. At around 3,500 - 4,000 RPMs depending on weight load in the car it screams like a mini F1 haha. I set off car alarms in the mall parking lot the first day i took her out after i installed the complete exhaust in my garage.
If you have questions pertaining to the add ons ive done to the little 3.8L or are thinking of doing them yourselves i can help you out with some questions. First off for the MAC headers you will need to purchase replacement gasktets from a ford dealership or local performance shop. Then after removing the stock airbox and exhaust manifolds you have to take out the stock exhaust manifold studs in order to properly fit the aftermarket headers. Mac supplies the bolts you need but i recommend getting retainers or bolt lockers so later on you dont have to fuss with header leaks if not torqued properly. This install is a two person job if you are planning to do it yourself, it makes it much less time consuming.
(Stock exhaust manifold vs. MAC shorty header)
The EGR pipe off of the passenger side shorty header (bung can be seen in picture above) must be modified too so it can fit onto the new passenger side header bung. All in all the X pipe and SLP Loudmouth Cat back were clamp/bolt on and it was a breeze doing it in my own home garage. To sum up the add ons for my car i have an aftermarket shifter knob (not shown in interior picture since that one is dated) and a K&N air filter with the silencer removed.
