toond's 1986 Jaguar XJ Sedan

The Car belonged to my girlfriends father. He became ill and couldn't work on it or drive it. It sat for about 3-4 years and I couldn't watch it sit there anymore. So i took it in and commited myself to a huge undertaking. Some people love animals, some love tatoos, I like cars. So This is the beginning of life # 2 for this 86 Vanden Plas.
I have no experience with Jags, I have heard stories, both good and bad, Stories about how great they perform (when they work).
It doesn't start. (no spark) So I got a used ignition amp and put it in.
Still no spark. I hear this is common. Does anyone know what to try next? I would really like to drive it with the original engine and not resort to a chevy 350 swap.
I do have body and paint experience, so the cosmetics are really no issue to me. The chrome is good and it only has a little bit of minor surface rust where I began stripping to test a couple different types of paint remover.
Please feel free to leave any tech info or tech sources (web site links).
Thanks so much!

the car has potential, check mine out.... the places to look for rust are around the front and rear windsheilds, poor deign by jag, best to pull the glass and fix, the amp you talk about is a gm part, take apart the amp and you will see a gm ignition module inside, best to try a new one, i got all my help form www.jag-lovers.org, these guys wil hewlp you get it running (if it isnt already), and good luck!!!
