Interior and Drivetrain upgrades
This is the old tranny, It's a light duty a 250 model. These were found behind 6 cylinder engines. We were killing these with all the load of the extra weight.
This is the forward section of the new tranny, the drain plugs are a tell tale sign of a heavy duty tranny. This model is a 230, which is a full synchro piece with a higher duty rating. It was found standard behind V8's in some models.
Tailshaft view of the new tranny.
This is the original 9 bolt 7.25" ring gear tranny. It's also the lightest duty piece available for the car. I was also having trouble eating bearings in these because of the weight and load. (daily driver) :o)
A comparison of the new 10 bolt 8.25" rear end and the old one. This axle is standard equipment behind a V8.
The installed 10" rear axle assembly :o)
Due to the size of the tranny and rear end a new slightly shorter driveshaft had to be fashioned.
A significant upgrade of rear brake capacity helped greatly in bringing a 1/2 ton stereo down from speed. A disc brake upgrade for the front is about to be undertaken as well further increasing braking capability and facilitating a set of aftermarket wheels. :o)
