AX15 SWAP Well it's finally time to report on the AX15 swap I've had up on the first page for 2 months now.I first decided to do this when the AX5 began to whine loudly, this was not even a year after I had it out for new synchros, at that point I knew it was going to be nothing but trouble in the future, and I had no desire within me to drop more money on it.I also didn't want to swap the 4 banger, despite it being under powered on the highway, it performed great everywhere else (especially in sand) so what was one to do?Well recently, it was posted on Pirate4x4, that a gentlemen successfully swapped an AX15 onto his 4 banger utilizing a Dodge Dakota bellhousing, and other various mix and match parts. I didn't want to do this either, because it required the use of a 4-banger Camaro clutch. I didnt like this aspect because I couldn't see an ordinary car clutch taking the heavy amounts of slipping that is used offroad, among other reasons.I also knew that Advanced Adapters offered a swap kit to do the same thing, but I had no idea it was as complete and quality as it was. Advanced Adapters also sells BRAND NEW AX15s for ALOT less then Quadratec, and only a few hundred more then most rebuilt AX15s, it was a no brainer. I ordered the brand new AX15, the swap kit, the new input gear for the transfer case to match the AX15, and the new shifter bracket for the transfercase shifter assembly.the swap kit included a new front plate to allow use of the original AX5 bellhousing on the new AX15 tranny to bolt up to the 4 banger (mind you, this is not an addon adapter plate, but a plate to swap out the bearing retainer plate is it? I cant remember what its called, but the input shaft comes through it on the front) a new T/O bearing, a new clutch disk from Centerforce (yay!) and a new pilot bushing, plus all new hardware. The original clutch cylinders are used.and since I was going to have the T-case out for the new input gear, I opted to do an SYE swap and CV shaft upgrade as well.I only have pics of the tranny parts right now, more will come once the project is done, and if anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me and I will try my best to answer them.
