Have you ever watched a car go by and thought, wow, that looks good but it sounded like crap? Very few cars don't dissapoint, such notables are; Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari, Viper and Maserati, it would seem however that the majority of today's vehicles fall short in the sound category. The good part of this excercise is there is no shortage of aftermarket exhaust manufacturers.
The right sound can make or break a custom car and our Mustang RR is no different. Having a V6 put us behind the 8-ball right out of the gate so we had to look long and hard for a company who could give our ride street cred.
After numerous phone calls and driving all over to listen to everyone's version of an awesome sounding exhaust I found exactly (not almost) but exactly what our Stang needed to be taken seriously while cruising the boulevard.
Hello Magnaflow!
We had two issues to deal with, number one, a V6 only has a single tip (weak) and two our new 3Dcarbon bodykit has a dual cutout (sweet).
The Magnaflow dual exhaust kit was in a huge box when I arrived to pick it up and after a two hundred mile round trip I was ready to install it. The Mustang was already up on our lift and my somewhat able assistant had sprayed the rubber hangers and nuts and bolts with WD-40.
This install was accomplished with simple hand tools and yes while we had a lift you can perform this task on your back in your driveway with the vehicle up on jackstands.
Isn't nice of Ford to give us dual cats and then a single 1 3/4 pipe?

This part is important as the "sleeve" must not be damaged, you will need to re-use this part. Loosen it so it rattles and slide it back seperating the rear section and letting it hang.
Move to the back and loosen the muffler clamp until it rattles and moves freely. It will help if you have a rubber/urethane mallett to pound on the back of the muffler to help slide it off. Be careful to not let it fall, the only other thing holding it on the car is a rubber donut, you will remove this last and the muffler will now fall into your hands, it is very heavy so be careful.

Now its time to start installing the new stuff. start with the y-pipe, slide the long two bolt factory clamp on the end and push the pipe inside the factory piece. Don't tighten it yet as you will have to move it around to get it where you want it after getting the tailpipes joined together.
The new tail duals slide into your Y-pipe and your getting close to finishing up. Do not tighten these pipes either.
Here you can see the pipes go up and over the axle and axle locater bar, it is a tight fit so be patient. Being good at Tetris is finally going to pay off in the real world. Once you get the tips lined up where you want them start snugging everything down making sure it doesnt move around and voila! You're done, let it run for a few minutes to make sure you have no leaks, let it cool, recheck the torque and take it for a spin.
