You're lookin @ my all original 76 Mercury Montego that I got from my uncle who passed away in June 2001 and nobody else wanted it so my father got it a year after because I wanted it. I havent got a chance to give it a new paint job or do major work to it except putting in new brakes and some work on the steering and a new ignition. Also some spic stole 2 of the emblems on the car and i ended up spending about 35 dollars to get new ones. This was the last year of the montego before they came back in 2005. This car has an original AM/FM radio but unfortunately no 8-Track Player. This is my first car other than an AMC Rambler American which I had that never ran and needed a new transmission. My father ended up bringing it to the junkyard in 2000.

Had one of these when I graduated highschool in 1979 - my mom gave it to me. It had every option available, it was a dark green color and had a 460 police interceptor motor, C6 transmission posi-trac rear end. I put in TRW forged pistons, a crane fireball cam, eldebrock lowrise intake manifold, Holly 850 dual feed-dual pumper carb and hooker headers on it. It would pass anything but a gas station. Had a cop friend in Valpariso Fl, outside the east gate of Eglin AFB clock me one night after leaving base at 154 mph. Never really found out what the top end was. Didn't trust the tires to go any faster, but the high speed runs were a great way to dry it off after the carwash4. It would do 0-70 in 5.5 seconds in first gear, topped out at 110 in second gear. Thing rode like glass. Took many trips from Ft. Walton Beach Fl. to Pittsburgh PA & back. Average time was 14 hours & 4 tanks of gas (27 Gallon tank)for the 1100 mile trip. Cost about 35 dollars to fill the tank back then. Loved that car. Had lots of room in the back seat for me and my girlfriends in H.S. Would love to find another and rebuild it the same, except for the ugly green color ford had then. Take good care of it.

Awesome! Reminds me of the movie "Used Cars" where an old fire dept Montego ramped off a flat bed and over the train lol. I like how the front grille/nose is reminisant of the HUGE mid 70's Thunderbirds. I'm hoping to get a '77 LTD II cop car if I can get ahold of the owner, which is the same Torino platform car as yours. ~Ian
