So my z-buddy and I met before the ER May 2009 autocross event at the Palm Beach International Speedway - the old Moroso track - for a caravan up I-95, along a couple of backroads, etc. At one point, while weaving in and out of traffic, we ended up calling eachother and asking eachother if we knew how fast we were going...me having aftermarket wheels/tires/possibly the wrong speedo cog in a swapped transmission. But who really cares?!

He has a veeeeery fly-yellow 1970 240-z. Got some good action shots on the way to ad from the event.

At staging getting ready for the 5 runs. Yellow ended up beating Rusty by less than a second.

And we get to Rusty the Rusted Rocket. This was the first even we have run since November...AKA the last time my little brother will EVER race my Z! I felt as rusty as Rusty and did not feel like I was driving very fast and seemed to lack the ability to carry any kind of momentum.

The numbers: I felt a bit rusty and finished 4 of 4 in FP, I beat 19 of 75 entrants and finished 70 out of 75 PAX. But it was a REALLY fun time as usual...just like I remembered it. Plus, I felt like my clutch was slipping...do I smell a lightened flywheel and new clutch disk?!

Having settled into the routine of being a new Dad, I am starting to get out to at least one local autocross per month. This one was put on by ER down at the Homestead Miami Speedway. It was a hot day but for the most part people stayed pretty cool. The numbers: I finnished 4 of 5 in FP, 79 of 112 in PAX and beeat 41 of the 112 entrants raw time (on cheap street tirres).
A view of the tent that saved my hide from the sun. And check out the cool Datsun Racing flag that my brother got me for my birthday!
All teched, staged, and ready to race.
A shot of the engine. Look how the vlalve cover hose vent is collapsed. Interesting.
And this is one of the reasons I love Rusty the Rusted Rocket...I load all my stuff in the car, drive 1.5 hours, flog around the course 5 times, load everything back up, and drive 1.5 hours home...

Palm Beach International Raceway test-n-tune night and I havent been to the drag strip in a couple of years. During that time I have been preparing the Z for autocrossing, not drag racing. Plus, the launch is an artform thagt I dont have enough practice to get the hang of.

As usual, I had a really great time. There were some guys that also got there early and we talked cars and hung out.

My best timeslip. I kept spinning my wheels through first gear. My rear tires had too much air and I was at just over 1/2 tank of gas (thanks to bad planning). I think with lower tire pressure in the rear, 1/2 as much fuel in the tank, cooler temperatures, and a good launch I could run low 15s possibly high 14s. Oh well, it was fun and I was home in time to see the kid before she went to bed!
