280Z-hab's 1978 Datsun 280Z

Another year at the Mitty at Road Atlanta in 2007. I drove the Mighty Z up from South FL and my little brother drove down from KY. We are getting this down to an artform, we had a blast, lots of classic car racing, lots of beer, lots of food. What more could anyone want from mancation?

280Z-hab's 1978 Datsun 280ZThe Kumho Tires guys were there and since I am running Kumhos, I strategically parked and took some pictures. Maybe I will email the pictures to Kumho and get some free stickers or used in an ad.

We did the touring laps again this year which are getting your car on the track and the pace car leads everyone around at 60 mph (the real race cars go about 120 average around the track). But to have even more fun, let the car ahead of you get really far ahead of you then you can go faster through turns!

What fun would a digital camera be if you couldt take a picture of your brother coming out of the porta-pottys?! Nothing like toilet humor!

There were two cool Z racecars there, one was for sale for $8,600 (could not get wife-approved budget for this project) and the other one was in the race.

The GA Z car club sposored the Z car corral and had a tent. A really friendly group. Here are some of the Z's in the corral.

And here are some pics of the other (non-Z) cars. It seems like everywhere you look there were more and more awesome classic race cars. Around every corner in the pits or in every spectator area. For the classic car lover, this really is a terrific event.

Did you have any kind of trouble with the engine after you removed the smog equipment? I'm thinking of doing the same thing but i don't know if i can just remove and plug stuff?

I did have a bit of trouble, but nothing I couldnt figure out with a multi meter and the FSM and the fuel injection handbook. You can get a FSM from Courtesy Nissan on CD or search zcar.com for "free FSM" and also, while on zcar.com, look from Blue's fuel injection handbook (another free download). Be sure and check for vacuum leaks...un-measured vacuum leaks = power loss. Maybe invest in a $15 vacuum gauge from Summit? Good luck!

Beautiful 280z. 5* Check out mine. Eventually I want to swap out to 240z bumpers (in black fiberglass) and Rota wheels like yours.

Very nice car, I love the stance on it. Would you care to share the suspension details?

Thanks for the compliment, happy to share. I installed Tokico lowerin springs but lopped of several coils (check out my page, I forget exactly how many), and Tokico struts. But thats just to get the stance.
