It all began here... We started looking for a Certified Pre-Owned Orient Blue E38 740iL, but locating one without the beige interior in the Pacific Northwest became a challenge. The three local dealers tried to find us one, but the closest they could get was a 740i and we had our heart set on an iL. After a couple months, we decided to try looking all along the West Coast through BMW's web page. Unfortunately, any example we found was usually sold by the time it was posted. It was time to change strategies again, so one day we sent a couple dozen e-mails directly to dealers from Canada to Southern California. That evening, Steve Thomas BMW in Camarillo, CA. replied that they had the exact car. It was a lease return and the owner just moved on to a new E65 745i.
After several e-mails and phone calls, we were on a plane to sunny California. From when we learned of this car to the time we were driving off their lot, less than 48 hours passed.
The Baby Bimmer finally grows up. We drove back to the Puget Sound area and it looked like my dark blue 1987 E30 finally grew up to be an E38!
Should it be so hard to find a gray interior???
We added mud flaps to the car. They look better than you might expect...
We also have the clear StonGard transparent auto bra and StonGard Light protection. (www.stongard.com)
The stuff isn't really obvious, and not too visible in pictures unless you get the right angle. (I also changed to clear turn signal indicators. Some pictures are older than others.)
There's the StonGard logo on the bottom of the lights.
16" stock basket weaves, or 18" M Parallels? They may be boring, but I like the stock baskets. I think it's because my E30 always had the Coca-Cola bottle cap rims, and the baskets found on the 325is would have been a step up.
16"
18X8" with 255/45 18s front, 18X9.5" with 275/40 18s rear.
I had the luxury of test-driving some pre-owned M Parallels that are for sale. Once they were on the car, I knew I had to have them!
I changed the center caps back to blue and white, since the car is Orient Blue. The previous owner of the wheels had a Cosmos Black car and custom painted the center caps black.
The M Parallels really give the car a different look. Here they are with regular center caps and black wheel bolts and later clear turn signal indicators.
