HID Install on a 2001 Acura MDX (this will apply all the way through to 2003 MDX)
First off, I ordered this kit from xtralights.com, it's the 8000K deep blue kit. For a reference the HID's in the 04 MDX stock are 4300K I think. Also, the webpage says this is extremely easy and there is no soldering required. To do the install correctly, soldering is required to make good firm connections. Please be sure to read page 4 on heat protection of the ballasts!!!!
Here's what the kit comes with:
This is the HID bulb itself:
(be absolutely sure not to touch the bulb, if you do by accident rub down the spot you touched with rubbing alcohol)
Step 1: Mount the bulbs in place to be sure no damage can occur to the bulb during install.
Step 2: Attach the wires (black and white) coming from the ballast module to the metal connectors with the kit.
Step 3: Solder those wires to the connectors for an absolutley firm connection!
Step 4: Mount the ballast somewhere with the least amount of heat possible and little chance of being submerged in water.
(zip ties are included with the kit but are small in number, buy extra's for just in case)
Step 5: Connect the metal ends you soldered in step 3 into the plastic adapter for the 9006 headlight connection pre-existing in your car. Make sure that white goes to the positive connection and black to the ground!
(make sure they lock into place, you will hear a click, you may need to experiment with the best way to put them in)
Step 6: Connect the ignitor module with the fool proof plugs and mount the ignitor module away from heat and water.
Step 7: Make it look clean, wrap the wires with wire holster of some sort and use electrical tape around the connecter and white and black wires.
Step 8: Repeat all of the above for the other side.
Step 9: Turn on your car and your lights and see the difference!!!
Step 10: The FINAL step!
Be sure to aim the headlights, this is easy to do, you will notice an 8mm bolt on the back of the housing close to the low beams, on that bolt will be a washer with some teeth, it's easy to find. Park approx. 4 - 6 feet from a flat wall where you can see both lights shining (I used my garage door) adjust the lights either up or down depending on your likes by using the 8mm aiming bolt on the back of the housing. Make sure that both lights are the same level, you can typically eyeball it, but for those perfectionists tightly hang a string across the wall on the top of the headlight reflection and use a level to make sure it's level. After this stand infront of the car and make sure that there is no excessive glare and that the lights are even, then crouch and do the same observations, if one is off then re-aim it. Yes, that is alot of writing but it infact takes about five minutes! Now you're officially DONE!
What About Heat?....Check Page Four For Heat Precautions On Ballasts!!!!!
I have Sylvania Silver Stars as my fog lights and also were once my headlights, those 8000K HID's make those stars look yellow!!!!
Good luck with your installs!!!!
