...And the reason for being...

These are my new babies...Ascendant Audio Avalanche 12's
They weigh in at ~33lbs each. If I can find someone with a decent videocam I'll get some excursion vids cuz these things can MOVE.

How about some comparison shots (like we all haven't done this)

My dawg

I have them in 3.5 cubes @ 30Hz powered off of a Lanzar Opti2000D at .5 ohms putting out ~2000 watts RMS.

Make sure your enclosure is braced well!!
I coated the inside of the box with fiberglass resin to smooth out the wood to let the air flow better and also for strength. Also, I got bored one day and decided to use threaded rods to brace my box further, now it's solid as a rock!
I painted the box myself too, btw...if you saw it up close you'd be able to tell, haha.

Here's the amp for my front speakers
JBL Px600.2
I have 150 RMS x 2 for my comps up front.

Here's a view of my tweeters on the sail panels (I believe that's what they're called). I plan to get them flush mounted or find new sail panels from a Taurus at a junkyard or something that has the "premium" mach sound system with tweeters already there and have it at least look better than that.

And here's a pic of my midbass speaker and crossover

The component set is the Adire Kodas, I got them on Adire's "getting rid of this years' stock" sale for only $225 rather than the normal $350! Ohhhh they would have been worth the $350. GREAT midbass response from these, I really enjoy them. But remember, lots of sound deadening on the door and especially SEAL UP THOSE HOLES or you won't get jack for midbass.

I have a couple layers of Second Skin Damplifier on the inner and outer door skin (behind speaker) to deaden the door and seal up the holes to get the good midbass. Also, later I put some liquid deadener over top of that because I had extra, it was the Second Skin Spectrum. I also put a LOT of that stuff on the trunk and trunk lid and a bit on the rear doors. Even with all that bass, my car is still fairly quiet, but not rattle free yet!!

What would a good sound system be without a quality head unit?
Alpine CDA-9815 will do it for ya. IF I upgrade to the 9855 it will only be because I want better integration with my iPod and I'd like the biolite display better. Look at my blue Mini!

I have yet to get my system metered, but I'm really curious what I'd be hitting. I hope I'm somewhere around low 140's, but I have no idea.

I'll continue to update pics and whatnot when needed...

if you end up keeping the taurus... for the tweeters in the sail panels, you dont have to get the mach grilles from gen4 tauruses. gen3 sail panels are easier to find and still fit. just thought i'd share that info. if you're wondering how it will look i have 1 or 2 pics on my page.
