The factory pocket is $80 or so and I did not feel like using the cheap install kits that give you an open pocket. I looked around for some options and ended up getting a pocket with a door from an Acura CL (used to have one so knew the pocket was nice). Cost me $8. Here's the pocket.
I then made a template and cut out a piece of 1/16" Lexan I had.
I epoxied a second layer to the Lexan to make it stronger and then painted it.
Shaved the pocket a bit, painted the radio braket and all works well.
Fits pretty good. Good enough for $8.
I used the stock antenna for the rear bolt mount. Gotta love Mazda parts.
All done. It now holds my USB flash drives full of music. No more CDs for me.
