*UPDATE* 8/27/2005. About 20 minutes ago I went to go pick up my car. I had taken it in to have new seals, front and rear, put in. For a while all the air it was getting was coming striaght from the exhaust. Also got a new distributor cap, since the last place that did work on it (precision tune, portland oregon) do not go there if you own a bug or any other car. Anyway, they didnt know what the hell they were doing and screwed it up. The mechanic told me the car still has many issues but other than that its running great. The other day some asshole left a huge dent in the right rear panel and didnt even leave a note (rude people). I'll be taking the bug back in a couple weeks because the generator is going out and also the fan has a crack in it. Gradually its getting there..Keep checking back for updates.
Welcome to my page and thanks for checking out my whip. I picked this up in idaho about 4 months ago or so for $600. When I got it, the brake lights wouldnt work and I didn't have a mirror. I got the brake light fixed for about 16 bucks and the mirror for 10. I drove it all the way from idaho but after running it for 10 hours it died and I had to sleep in it.
The next morning it ran and i was on my way. I had no idea what was wrong, this is my first bug. I didn't even know what year or make it was when I first got my hands on it, nor did I know how the reverse worked. When I got it to portland I drove it around for a while and eventually the problem came back. It was winding down and acting as if it wasnt getting any gas. I had it tuned up, new master cylinder and a variety of other things.
It run great immediately after.. but one hot day after class it did the same thing on the side of the freeway, after about an hour it started up. It has done this to me about 7 times, so I stopped taking it on long trips. I was told my car was over heating, the shop told me I need a new engine seal and a tin. But when I broke down the other day a bug pulled over, gave me a new fuel filter and its been running good ever since. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.. I've almost sold this bug twice and its been towed once, also.. i was at wells fargo and a van backed right into it. My ex as of last night.. bent my rear fender and also ripped off a visor. I love this bug and I plan on restoring it.. just not sure where to start. possibly a new engine.. my email is cruisn89012@yahoo.com Thanks!
