Introduction

DaveClement's 1998 BMW 7-Series

I wanted to create a picture that represented the overall image of my 750iL. Something like you'd find in a magazine ad. I loaded up some of the photos that I took recently onto the computer and "morphed" them into this. All of the elements, including the badges are from actual photos that I took of my car. I'm using a higher resolution version of this for my computer wallpaper.

You may have seen this photo on BMW's web site, or at least thought you had. Look closely, the car in the picture is not BMW's demo model, but my actual car. As it happened, one of the pictures that I took recently was from almost the exact angle as the one in the photo. After a little editing on the computer, I was able to lay mine on top of the one that BMW used.

Here is my car parked in front of Mount Rainer, or at least a representation of it.

I used photo editing software to create this cutaway view. It was made from six different photos. A picture of my car with the hood open, with the hood closed, extra matching spare tires, a picture of the suspension in a BMW book and another of the engine. A composite of the original photos is located here here. A higher resolution version is located here.

Waiting for the 7s
My favorite artist is Tim Wistrom. He is very popular in the Pacific Northwest for painting surrealistic scenes of common landmarks years into the future with nature taking over.

I admired his work so much that I decided that I had to have one of my own. I worked through A Class Act Gallery to commission a painting just for me.

I exchanged several e-mails to explain what I was looking for. I pointed out which Tim Wistrom pictures and color combinations I liked best. I also sent in photographs of my car and the Starbucks restaurant where the Seattle 7s meet.

Two months later Tim presented me with the finished painting. You can't see the detail in here, but it really stands out in person. The Starbucks looks just like the real one, only old and weathered. The light posts are the same, but an eagle has made a nest in one of them. The car even shows my V12 BMW license plate.
