'76 Midget - Main Page

A complete bare body restoration was completed in July 2005. It is a stock 1976 MG Midget except Mini-lite alloy wheels and ANSA dual-tip exhaust. Also installed is an Alpine CD player and sound system. The exterior is Damask Red a factory original color.

With any old car, the thing to look for is rust. Now just because there's rotten floorboards or holes in the fenders doesn't mean that it is a no go. One way to check for structural integrity on these cars is the door test. If the doors don't close properly because they hit the door post on the rear fender, then most likely the side sill or door jam/hinge pillar up front has been weakened beyond repair and is causing the body to sag. Remember, these are uni-body construction, the only sub-frame is up front under the engine compartment. If this area has been bent due to a previous accident, then the cars alignment will be permanently off. Also, check for lack of original badge or trim mounting holes on the exterior. This a good indicator of excessive Bondo work. As for engines, low oil pressure at hot idle below 20lbs, or uneven cylinder pressures at greater than 20% difference are all signs that the engine is in need of a rebuild. But engines like everything else mechanical on these cars, are obviously replaceable. The real point of a solid rebuild is a good body to work off of. ~ Ron. Any additional questions please ask.

Beautiful. I loved the color and the leather seats. I am planning to buy a 77. Is there any weak spots to check? Any advices? Thanks
