-New additions page 5!
Ok it's been a long time since I've redone this page. so here the recap.
87' Bronco II
stock: 2.9L, 3.45 open difs, no lift(when i got it) eddiebauer
now: 4.0L 3.73/8.8 L/S, 3" body,2.5" suspension lift, 32x11.5's, 24'ext rad arms
Here a recent pic posing on the hood of one of our parts rigs.

Here's Pic stock. taken in 2001 me stuck on a small rock pile high centered.
she's come quite a long ways... i have 2 kids 2 and 3 years old so my budget is pretty small. most things on this tuck are homemade. I'm kinda shade tree mech. i mostly major in computer networking/repair/programming. but my side passion is my bronco.
here's the back story (WITH PICS just to keep u interested)
bought the B in 2001 for $900 previous owner took good care of they where the second owners only had 30,000 miles on it and a great running 2.9 manual tranny.
first mod was the k/c lights, actually headlights & brackets mounted to the roof rack witch i positioned forward. wired all the beams on so hight and low on the same time. cost $0
Next to come was the Paint job! I'm a big Kawi fan. so actually thats what i based my color selection off of. but i wanted a color that would stand out but still be different from everyone else, when i seen that green color i said "thats it" NO it's not rattle canned i used air compressor/gun setup to paint it. 1 night and 2 coat paint job. it's actually held up pretty nicely just scraps here and there. cost $30 in paint (color match rustolium)
Then came the body lift. got it off a friend for nothing. had it installed in a few hours 3" i was really impressed with hight change. things i didn't expect was the shifter being lower (DUH) had to make a extension for it.
by this time i had done some small upgrades. i had put a nicer mp3 deck in it. moved the door locks to the console because i kept hitting the door locks with my knee. then i put speakers in the door where the door locks where. (eddiebauer don't have speakers in the door) and added a second battery, put struts on the hood, better intake, a converter to charge the battery's when parked rockin out, rear backup lights, speakers in the rear. cost for all this crap is around $60 (i have ALOT of crap laying around)
had to get myself some new skins after getting myself buried. the 4000lbs winch didn't cut it. broke like the first time out even doubling it up. my friend at the time was parting out an explorer said he as taking the axles and $150 i could take whatever else i wanted. :D
i snabbed the tires,4.0L,dash,coils,liefs and a number of other small parts. the tranny was dead and an auto and the seats sucked. first on was the semi bald 31x10.5's that was pretty cool after running stocks.
so then i started in on the 4.0 swap. (oh skipping back story... by this time i had gone threw 2 2.9's due to heat problems. bad radiators and replaced the head gasket on the 2nd one twice. got it down to only a few hours to do a head gasket change. so i'm wanting the 4.0 pretty bad.
redid the carpet and a bit of the interior. while i was swapping in the dash. carpet was like $30 nice wet dry stuff
hammerited the engine compartment painted and cleaned up the 4.0 to match. was pretty stoked. .. then! #@$$#!! the engine stand leg slipped out while getting the 4.0 into position. came right down on the harmonic balancer from about 3 ft. snapped the crank right there....
I was so pissed .... didn't know what i was going to do. i didn't have the money at the time to get another crank or the time. and i had already gotten the dash all put in and swapped the wiring harness to the 4.0. ??????
so i in lesser hopes put the 2.9 back in after a cleaning and a new paint job. got the explorer springs and liefs in along with some air shocks for front and rear. gave it quite the nice lift.
the explorer coils and liefs give u about 1.5" plus shocks gave me about 2" or so. depending on how much pressure i put in them.
then began the task of attaching the 2.9 wiring harness to the explorer dash. at the time there was only 1 person who had a tutorial for this on broncoii.org my club website and i was not impressed. showing over 100 wires that had to be clipped and re connected. me being the electical fanatic as i am.
(SIDE SHOW OFF!! - a few years prior to this i made my own radio telescope from scratch using the 12ft satellite dish. this is a type of telescope that uses high radio frequency's converted into images to look at the stars. so I'm pretty good electrical engineer)
managed to wire the 2.9 harness to the 4.0 dash and under hood harness (yes there's 3 separate harnesses) in about 3 hours only changing about 15 wires. running the next day. :D yes I'm awesome.
tax time came and it was time for some new meats! real tires and a good winch. so down to les swap. i decided i wanted 32's because i figured 33 and bigger where too much for my 2.9 3.45 gears. be hell on my clutch. went in and said "i want the most aggesive tread u have" 800 bucks later i had some nice lookin 32x11.5's then we chopped the crap out of my body so the tires where no where near rubbing and all was good. then went over to harbor fright and get a 8000lbs winch. i was stoked and ready for some wheelin. so total cost $1150 with winch and tires
my this time i was involved in the club and wheelin on the weekends when i could. finally i got a new crank for my 4.0 after about 6months the 2.9 finally died for the last time out on the trail! at reiter pit. barely made it back overheating the entire way.
so i went the 4.0 after putting in a new crank .. and easily reattaching the original wire harness. $80 for the crank
wow! WOW ! the 4.0 has a sick amount of power!!! just spin those tires like crazy. bye-bye weak 2.9 clutch .. lol lost the clutch in a few weeks and it was slipping right out the go with the 4.0
so i got a nice heavy duty 10" clutch for the B and all was good and i just can't beleve the weight to power ratio is crazy. clutch ran me about $250 when all was said and done
now i'm looking at rebuilding the suspension ext rad arms new longer travel shocks and some type of nice setup for the rear.
got a d35 front and rear 8.8 3.73 Limited slip that i'm working on getting installed. and then i'll be ready for some bigger tires and better suspention. picked up the axles at the junkyard and in the paper for a total of $150 for both complete assembelly's
So ... $2800 into it not counting all the normal little crap. and it just keeps getting better.
